Gentle and effective packets. Always dissolve. Gives a comfortable rinse as long as you have your water ratio correct per the instructions. Really good deal to buy online and in bulk. After using other brands, can appreciate that it is easy to open the packets and dump into nettipot without causing spillage.

The xylitol is an interesting additive. It feels moisturizing, which is nearly always the opposite of why we use products like this. The xylitol is said to be antibacterial. The next time I suspect an infection, I will try the remainder I have on hand to see if it helps. This seems to be a five-star, high-quality product that does not quite fit my needs. I bought it because of the xylitol additive, which may still serve a purpose in the future.

My family has routinely used the NeilMed saline packets for years, myself to help (along with prior sinus surgery) mitigate recurring sinus infections and poor nose breathing. Xylitol has been in use in the dental industry for years for the additional prevention of bacteria and cavities. Studies have not given many negatives (asides from stomach upset but that's ingestion of larger quantities). I had a really bad and stubborn sinus infection where steroid and a combo antibiotic was taking a while helping me clear it out. This time it was so bad I have never experienced any other sinus infection like it. I was so worried I even went to the dentist for upper xrays to make sure it wasn't a tooth infection that spread to the sinus. It wasn't. So I looked up the studies for xylitol and sinus infections, while not as much was found on the benefits for sinus applications, the fact that both dental and sinus studies indicated that it helps prevent bacteria adhesion convinced me to give it a try. I needed something to get me over the hump. When I say I was blowing out tissues and tissues of nasty mucous like slapping a palmful of slime on tissue - I mean it. So day 3 into rinsing 2 times a day (this is also days after finishing the steroid and antibiotics but was still blowing out gobs), I finally saw a big reduction in slime production and amount. I felt clearer. I am now making this a part of my periodic nasal maintenance during allergy and cold season.
