A different, but enthralling thriller with plenty of suspense.
Rating: 4.4/5This is a difficult book to review without hinting too much at spoilers which would spoil the experience of going on this helter skelter ride for yourself, so I will endeavour not to give away key elements that aren't already suggested by the synopsis.Having been separated from his drowning wife after their car plunged into a river during a storm, Dylan Moran starts experiencing strange haunting visions. A visit to a psychiatrist leads to Dylan pursuing a unique hypnotherapy treatment during which he will encounter an infinite number of parallel universes ... but will he find the answers that he seeks? The concept of parallel universes is nothing new to the world of fiction writing, but it is most often approached from a science fiction angle and can be prone to a degree of geekiness. With "Infinite", Brian Freeman has created a genuine thriller that is pacy, captivating and simultaneously both credible and incredible. I was reminded at different points and in varying ways of the likes of "Sliding Doors", "Shutter Island" and elements of Stephen King's "The Outsider", but ultimately this is very much its own book.It is certainly a bit different - and I can well imagine some readers really not taking to it - but I found it to be an enthralling read with plenty of suspense. Sometimes writers push boundaries and it just doesn't work, but I think that Brian Freeman has pushed those boundaries in a way that delivers a fresh and satisfying novel.

Absolutely Outstanding
This book was absolutely brilliant. A great concept and a fascinating and outstanding read. About a year ago I read “Thief River Falls” by Brian Freeman and at the time I rated it as one of the best books I had read and vowed that I would read more by this author. Unfortunately, I never got around to doing that, so when I saw “Infinite” being offered as an Amazon First Read, and studied the description, I knew I was onto a winner. This book was so totally “way out there” and stretched the imagination to its very limits. The ideas examined and developed in this extraordinarily complex and tightly structured story, were so imaginative and exciting. Something that I am sure many people have wondered about in the past, for various reasons – I know I have – and I found it enthralling to have someone else delve deeply into these themes. The characters were well written, and I found I had quite a bit of empathy with Dylan Moran – although not necessarily all of them. The twists and turns made it impossible to work out what was real and what wasn’t – which of course was the aim of the plot and even when I thought I had worked it all out and could see where it was going, the ending totally took me by surprise and turned everything I had been thinking up-side-down. This is the secret of a successful story and something that I think every author aims for but not all of them can pull it off. Brian Freeman most certainly can in a surprising and inspiring way.Reading the author’s notes at the end, I was extremely interested to see that he mentioned “The Magus” by John Fowles as an inspiration for this. This is a book that I read over 40 years ago and found it fascinating. It is a tale of psychological games, dark deception, and trickery. It was one of those books that stayed with me for an exceptionally long time and, on reading “Infinite”, it brought it back to me. I am absolutely certain that this book will also stay with me for a long time to come and I doubt I will find another book quite like it. I highly recommend this book – it is deep, dark and challenges your beliefs to a high degree. It is a thought provoking read, and I found it almost impossible to put down, continually wanting to know what was going to happen next. I am certainly going to make sure I read more of Mr Freeman’s in the future.

Well paced with a good few twists!
I chose this book as it was one of my free recommendations from Amazon prime. Now admittedly it's not my usual go to style but I thought I would give it a go and hopefully discover a hidden gem. The book is well written and nicely paced but I have to admit there were points that I felt drifted into cliche, it's at these points I found my brain wondering and more than once thought about calling it a day. HOWEVER the be,to twist came a long and I found myself needing to find out the conclusion. I read a review before purchasing that mentioned a worthwhile twist ending and I think this kept me invested and I have to say I'm glad I stuck with it. It even goes some ways to settling my cliche gripes. So my advice...stick with it, it's a slow burner.

Wow... just wow! (no spoilers)
The thought of reading a thriller about parallel universes would never have appealed to me... until I saw it was written by Brian Freeman.I had already read the Night Bird by this author a few years ago. Back then I remember being concerned from the blurb that the Night Bird may be a bit weird but after reading it I felt it was quite grounded so it was a no brainier for me to choose Infinite as my kindle first reads this month even though I wasn’t initially keen on the premise of the story. The characters are well drawn, the scenes so clear, the writing smooth... the believing in parallel worlds is another thing. But I read it not worrying about it as I felt sure that if any author was going to win me over it would be this one. And what a great choice I made!It works in the way that Back to the Future works... It’s not a time travel book but it has a similar effect. If you follow a character’s path in a parallel universe those characters come across different events that change their lives... and this book has that same effect. The premise of the story whilst seemingly weird is in fact based on quantum mechanics. And ultimately it is a well written, intense, fast paced and exciting thriller... whilst also being meaningful and inspirational... I thoroughly recommend it!
