Her memoir tells a true life struggle with many good times mixed in. Surrounded by many people that would encourage Duckworth, she sets many goals and works her way through them all. Her amazing strength and tenacity, both physically and emotionally, pulls her through the shoot down and takes her to her current position as a US senator. This is a well written memoir that reads as if you are having coffee with this amazing lady. Review: excellent and informative book - Did not really know the story of Tammy Duckworth. I learned about her life and attitude to never give up. One of the ladies in our book club recommended it. We live in Illinois so thought it would be a good source of information. Thank you Tammy for being our Senator and fighting for women’s rights in the military

Good read
I thought I was buying this book to be uplifted but instead I was swept into a well written journey of what it was like to be a poor young girl finding her way thru a tough life. I kept thinking that my life was tough but Tammy had me beat. Her story made me better understand the Reserves and National Guard which was well written and gave me a deeper respect for those branches of the service. I cried when she was shot down and lost her legs. I remember when that happened on the news. The book was a gripping story of survival. I am going to share this book with my adult daughter who is about the same age as Tammy. My daughter had a disabling stroke at 28 years old and has been a key volunteer fundraising for Veteran families of the National Guard. I was glad to have an opportunity to read about Tammy Duckworth. I wish her well and hope she doesn't get lost in the climb for political power.

A first-rate autobiography by an amazing woman!
I knew little about Sen. Tammy Duckworth and had not seen reviews of or advertisements for this book until a friend told me about it. It is outstanding! She relates the war horrors she went through in a straightforward manner, never seeking sympathy, and I am amazed that she could focus so completely on her recovery and downplay the pain and difficulty of the entire process. I am sorry I don't live in Illinois so I could vote for her, as long as she wants to stay in office! She is one amazing lady. I will certainly recommend this book to others.

Fantastic
I read this in one day. It held my interest.. No holding back, she tells the good and the bad. I admired her so much more. An amazing woman! I always wonder how she got to where she is now, in the Senate. Her journey is a rough one, she done excellent given the she was not born with a silver spoon. I wish her many more amazing, wonderful journeys. We need more Senators, representatives in Congress with her compassion, her mission for the people, by the people.

Even as a Canadian, I greatly enjoyed this memoir about a true American hero who, against all odds, keeps on giving to the country she loves!
