I installed this closer on the interior door to our garage. Fire and building codes require an automated closer to isolate the living space from fumes (carbon monoxide being the big one) as well to preserve the firewall. The spring hinges previously installed caused a loud slam every time a child went through it. Besides annoying me, the slam caused a pendulum clock to miss beats and lose time.The closer provides controlled opening speed and gentle latching of the door. Installation went easier after I removed the top trim piece of the door frame both for a flat mounting surface and to insure that screws holding the shoe for the swing arm went into solid wood.
