Easy to fill, easy to spill all down your shirt. Try with the Easy Sipper accessory!
If you're in the market for a plastic waterbottle, Nalgene is a great brand. They're very tough, they seal tight (especially the narrow mouth variety), and they have useful measurement markings. Why should you buy the 32oz/1qt wide mouth style in particular?* It holds a lot of water* It has a wide (stable) base compared to some brands* The wide mouth enables: - easy filling - the option of adding things like flavor pouches that would get stuck in narrow mouth Nalgenes - easier cleaningThat last point is a big deal. Every water bottle should be scrubbed out from time to time, and narrow-neck Nalgenes are very difficult to clean this thoroughly. The wide mouth does make it more difficult to drink gracefully, however, and more catastrophic when the bottle is knocked over. I recommend also buying and using the Nalgene Easy Sipper accessory, which I have used -- it works. With the shorter lid thread travel than the narrow mouth design, I am less convinced that this bottle will not leak. It's definitely a good lid and I don't think I've ever had it leak inside a bag, but I do take more care to close it tightly than I do with my narrow mouth bottle.Like any Nalgene water bottle, the external plastic is prone to dulling over time, reducing the transparency and shine of the bottle. Wear would be less apparent with an opaque bottle. The measurement markings also wear off.Short of extreme trauma to the bottle, the only thing that can break on a Nalgene is the plastic loop connecting the lid to the bottle. It's quite tough, but on larger bottles can break when the full bottle is routinely carried by the loop. This has not happened to me, but I have seen it in the wild. Why you should not buy this product:* You don't need to carry between a quarter and a third of your daily water intake around.* You don't want to risk spilling a lot of water when the lid is open.* You want a very, very secure lid.* You want a non-plastic bottle.* You want an opaque bottle.Health note: Nalgene bottles, like most reusable plastic bottles today, are BPA-free. We probably don't know as much about the chemicals used to replace BPA as we do about BPA itself, though.(Note: I purchased this bottle in 2016. I am not aware of any subsequent changes in manufacturing, if any.)

I always go back to Nalgene
I carry a water bottle everywhere I go. No matter what bottle I buy- expensive, insulated, fancy etc, I always go back to a Nalgene because of its size, lightweight design and ease of use. I’ve accidentally ran over one with my car and it was fine. I prefer the wide moth design because of its ease of cleaning and paired with a splash guard it’s the perfect waterbottle.

Same high quality as 10+ years ago
Many outdoors brands have started making lower quality products as their products have become more popular for everyday use. I have used nalgenes while hiking my entire life, and started using one as my daily water bottle about a decade ago. I just got the "Surfer" blue edition—a big change for me, a longtime user of the Regular Blue edition. I appreciate that you can pour boiling water directly into these without fear of melting (I have not tested this on my brand new one, and will update this review if it fails the test). The durability of these things is unrivaled. They do not get worn out or break from regular wear and tear. I have only had to replace them due to reckless behavior on my part, whereas other water bottles eventually become leaky or crack due to routine falls on surfaces like hardwood or dirt. In my whole life I have broken 2. The first was in 2015 while backpacking in Maine, when I was trying to use it as a weight to sling a rope over a high tree branch so I could hoist our food out of the bears' reach for the night. This had gone fine many times before! But this time the nalgene collided directly with a big rock on the ground. So I wouldn't recommend them for that specific purpose. The second time I broke a nalgene was about a week ago. It's 2022 so this nalgene is 7 years old now. it went flying from my open bag as I ran to catch a bus and hit the edge of the curb at a high velocity, shattering the bottom corner (pictured, left). The only features of the water bottle that I have found are affected by routine wear and tear are the bit of plastic that holds the lid to the bottle, and the volume markings. if you typically use a carabiner to attach the nalgene to a bag via the plastic strip, you can expect that to wear out and snap in around 6 years of daily use. the lid will still work fine without it. the volume markings will wear out eventually but hold up surprisingly well even if you wash it in the dishwasher frequently. the numbers/lines started to fade a bit after 4 years.

Great product
A very handy useful bottle. Wide mouth makes it easy to clean. Lightweight for carrying it around.

Good for price
This bottle was great for its price. My only complaint would be that it’s prone to mildew build up around the mouth piece. It’s hard to clean since it’s in between the ridges were the top screws on. Since it’s got an open mouth piece it’s not great for drinking on the move or you’ll spill it everywhere. Overall it’s durable and great to hook onto a bag.

Robustly built, trusted name
This thing is really well built. It has survived multiple falls onto hard floor with nothing but a few minor scratches. The plastic on the cap is also surprisingly durable (though does have a tendency to snap back into your face when drinking).

Great bottle
Awesome quality. Great to have the cap connected that toggles when twisting. Large bottle neck allows for cleaning.

Muito boa e resistente
As cores são lindas e o material parece ser bem resistente. A boca é bem larga, isso pode ser um problema pra algumas pessoas, mas eu não me incomodei.
