Zipper is a little difficult. Other than that it's perfect. My wife has M.S. and her core gets heated pretty easy. She gets pretty much homebound in the summer. With this vest we were able to go to a family bbq in 95 degree heat. It lasted for about 90 minutes but the water stayed cool for another 30 min. We bought extra inserts to change it out. Was amazing. My wife said it was a ticket to freedom. We will get a lot of use out of this. Also we purchased a cooler bag to put the extra inserts in.

Okay, if you are an academic, i.e., professor, the regalia you wear is dark, heavy, and multilayered. Given that summer graduation ceremonies, also called commencements, are often out of doors in the summer sun, heat is a constant challenge.Fortunately, I remembered a friend of mine in college who was one of the official mascots talking about "ice vests." This memory inspired me to buy this to wear under my regalia.IT WORKED! (The photo is of me in the regalia, and yes, I had this vest on underneath.) My colleagues are now planning to buy it too.Depending on the length of the ceremony and time of day, you will still feel the heat, but I was about 30% as uncomfortable as I would have been without it.Based on these managed expectations, this vest is an excellent cooling option and might be an ideal gift for any Ph.D. working at a university with Summer/Spring outdoor graduation ceremonies!Also, I've noticed that there is a great deal of criticism of the zipper in these reviews. The zipper really should not have any force on it. You really MUST adjust the cords that make up the sides. When wearing this vest, focus on the side cords, not the zipper.

My husband and I live in Alabama where summers are hot and humid. I purchased the FlexiFreeze Ice Vest for my husband to wear while doing yard work. I also ordered a set of replacement panels so that he would be able to stay cool longer if needed. Before the using the Ice Vest, he would come inside totally drained, clean up and head for his recliner. The first time he used his new vest, he came inside with a huge smile on his face, thanking me for buying this vest. His words were...it’s a life changer. He’s telling all his friends about it. Oh, I forgot to mention, when I talked about purchasing one for him, he really didn’t want me to. He’s really happy I did!

I work at a treadmill desk so I am walking at about 2 mi/hr throughout the day and I generate a LOT of heat. This vest allows me to stay cool even when the thermostat is set for 78 degrees. Yes, it's expensive and yes, you can only count on it cooling you for 60-90 minutes. Rather than buying a set of replacement panels as I did for $30, buy a set of the cubes only and cut them up to fit in your vest. $20 gets you three sheets of the cubes https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PTGO5A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which means three sets of replacement cubes. That gets me through most of the day. Make changing out the cubes easier by using scissors to round the edges of the sheets so that they slide in and out of the vest panels easier.I gave four stars only because it probably only costs them $15 to make a vest that they sell for $100.

This is a decent vest overall, and was pretty effective the first day at keeping me cool while doing yard chores for about an hour in 90 degree heat. But the main zipper, which is terrible quality, broke on the second day. So one star.UPDATE June 2019: I liked the vest enough to return the zipper version and buy the Velcro one. But before I even put it on, the zipper from one of the cold packs broke (see photo). Good grief.
