Decent hobby motor with encoding capabilities.
This review is for the "CQRobot 70:1 Metal DC Geared-Down Motor 37Dx70L mm 6V/12V, with 64 CPR Encoder and Bracket. 6V-5W-75RPM-15 kg.cm(208 oz.in), 12V-10W-150RPM-27 kg.cm(375 oz.in), D-Shaped Output Shaft 16mm.." I ordered this due to the built-in gear reduction. Overall the motor is pretty stable with no apparent back slop. The encoder also seems to show pretty accurate measurement pulses and seems consistent with the simple test I set up. For the most part, it passed so I'm going to be using it to move a bracket into position. I can use other motors for this, but I like the gear reduction... slow for my application is better as there is no room for a worm gear. It functions as listed, and is an acceptable value for what it does. Worthy of consideration imho.

Works
I tested this using the sketch in the Wiki listed in the product description. The first few declarations are all smashed together so you have to do a little copy and paste to get it to run properly, but it does do what it says. It will give you a running output from the motor encoder to the Arduino serial monitor. You can unplug the motor (as I did in the screen shot) and see the changes in the encoder output as the motor slows down after losing power. In order to actually do something with this, you'll need a motor controller board. There is plenty of online tutorials to guide you through that if you are new to this. Be certain to heed the warning about keeping mounting screws to 3mm of penetration. Lots of power in a small package. Works as advertised-recommended. If this review was of use to you, please consider clicking on "helpful". Thanks.

The shaft is not 16mm as shown in decription. It is 6mm
The shaft diameter is incorrect on this description and caused me to select the incorrect interfacing hardware. The motor itself is fine.

Lots of torque!
I ordered this particular motor for a robotics project, because I needed a motor with more torque than my stepper motors could provide. CQRobot's wiki had the information on how to interface an Arduino to this motor, which made controlling it easy. Mounting flange and screws were provided. The motor does have a lot of inertia, and the wiki made it clear that the motor does not stop instantly when you remove power, but you can use your controller to watch the output of the encoder to see how much movement happens, and compensate within your controller software by either gradually reducing power or removing power a bit early, to get it to stop where you want it to. Hope this was helpful.

210:1 metal geared-down motor w/encoder and bracket
It's a hobby and purely experimental investment. That's what I told my wife after she opened it. I haven't discussed the ball screw. The electromotive sophistication at this price is stunning. There's more torque here than I expected at 12v. I'm thinking of applications. I have ideas. How much can it actually lift before stall? To be continued ... I've already got my money's worth in entertainment and quality thinking.

Nice hobby gearmotor
I’m going to try to make a high-power RC servo with this unit, because it includes the motor, gearbox and encoder. I’m going to use an Arduino for the processing.

Great motor
Like all CQRobot products this one is well documented. Head over to their excellent wiki, search for its SKU "CQR37D", and you can find all sorts of information about it and some sample code to use with arduino. It's a really nice motor with a lot of torque. It runs really well and it's a lot better documented than most motors I've picked up in the past. Like most CQRobot products I'd recommend it in a heartbeat -- it's a good brand with solid parts.

This is a great little motor intended to be driven at 6V foward or reverse for a stall torque 7.5Kg.cm 2.8A or 12V forward or reverse for a stall torque 14.0Kg.cm 5.5A. You have a 4 wire 64CPR encoder output and the motor itself is 2 wire. The motor has 6 x M3 mountings threaded into the gearbox case [warning... dont penetrate more than 3mm into the gearbox case as you will damage the gears]. The motor comes with a well made 90° bracket that aids the mounting of this motor and it is very useful to use. The output is a keyed 16mm shaft which is 5.4mm in diameter. This is easy to control and use the encoder output in various PWM motor controllers. I actually found this a very high quality cost effective high power motor. I used it as both main traction drives for a wheeled robot and also for the robitic arms. Great to use and its well designed. Happy to recommend, Andrew
