Can we use it if the pre existing filter isnt there? One of our filters is damaged smd so cant be used at all. So can this filter be used in place

Yes. It shd work. Comes with velcro corner pieces which can be attached in the corners.

is it washable? if yes, then wont it get torn when in machine

The mfr says it is washable, though almost certainly it will get torn if washed in a machine. Wash gently by hand spray with soap n water if necessary...
