Norpro Silicone Microwave Double Egg Poacher, Red

I bought this to replace a two-egg poacher made from hard plastic that had a broken hinge. To use, I lightly spray with nonstick spray and add one JUMBO egg to each side, poke both yolks with a fork and carefully put it into my 1200-watt microwave. I say "carefully" because when the eggs are raw, the silicone bottom half is very wobbly and flexible, and you can spill some raw egg if you're not careful. Then I set the oven to 50% power and cook for 1:50. I usually hear one "explosion" from an egg right at the end. I remove the cooker from my microwave and open the cover, then sprinkle some shredded cheese on both eggs, put the cover back on and return to the microwave. At this point the eggs are cooked enough to be somewhat firm, so the cooker is lots easier to handle than before. I set the power for 50% and cook for another 40 seconds, let it rest for about 30 seconds and remove the eggs with a small silicone spatula. They slide easily onto the plate. The eggs are cooked through and moist, not runny or dried out. The cooker is super easy to clean. These are jumbo eggs, so if you use medium or large eggs, they will probably cook faster. Great purchase, makes breakfast easy.

I wanted a safer alternative to my old plastic microwave egg poacher that is probably not BPA-free, so I ordered this one. I'm so glad I did, because it cooks my egg much better than my old one ever did. First of all, it's not really a "poached" egg because you don't have to add water to it so the texture is different. I consider it a plus because you don't have to drain off any water before you eat it. I use this because I sometimes want a quick egg (1 minute, 15 seconds on 50% power in my 1000W microwave oven) that has a completely cooked white with a slightly runny yolk. I only eat one egg at a time, so I don't know what the time would be for two. Tips on using this egg poacher: I always spray the cup with cooking spray and have never had a problem with egg sticking to the bottom. Also, I always puncture the yolk with a toothpick a few times in order to prevent explosions in my oven. It also seems to help the egg cook more evenly. I have read a few complaints that this poacher is too flimsy and it flops around when you try to carry it. Using both hands, carry it with your thumbs on top to keep the lid in place and use your fingers spread evenly underneath the side along the length of the poacher and you won't have a problem at all. It's really just common sense and unless you're literally all thumbs, you shouldn't have a problem moving this thing around without spilling your eggs. It's quick, easy to clean and seems to be very durable. Very glad I purchased this item!

Very positive experience so far. Eggs are coming out the way I want with no explosions and easy cleaning. Here are the word-for-word cooking instructions that came with the product: - Spray poacher cups with nonstick cooking spray. - Break eggs into poacher cups. - Cover with lid and cook 2 - 3 minutes at medium (50%) power or until desired preference. In addition, I pierce the yolks based on advice from other reviews posted here. At 2.5 minutes, my yolks are coming out in that soft stage between runny and solid, which is where I like them. Tipping the poacher slides the eggs right out onto the plate, no utensils needed. There are also instructions for using the poacher on a stovetop by having the cups float in a skillet full of water, but I haven't tried that. A couple minor complaints: The cups are a little flimsy and awkward to handle, particularly when the eggs are liquid. Holding the poacher with one hand while opening the microwave door with the other is not recommended, this is a two hand job both inserting and removing the poacher. I've also had to use more cooking spray than I hoped I would have to, but maybe a different spray product will coat the cups better. Overall though I'm expecting to be happy with this product for a long time provided it remains durable.

I loved that you can cook the eggs in 1 minute in the microwave, just add a little water and some olive oil in the bottom of each section crack an egg cover and wait. The eggs come out very easy with a dinner knife not a steak knife BUT what remains is some of the egg white which seems to be very hard to clean off of the silicone. I thought ALL of the eggs would just slide miraculously off. Wrong

As others have commented here, this is the first microwave egg poacher I've found that really works! As a bonus, it's the easiest to use and cleans up easily, too. I've had 3 or 4 microwave egg poachers in the past, some needing precise, small amounts of added water, some having the egg explode if not pricked before cooking, and all requiring at least modest cleaning effort before being used for the next batch of egg(s). Key features: -) Base made of not-too-floppy silicone rubber. This really reduces the stickiness, even without use of cooking spray; in the worst case, just run it under the faucet for a few seconds, shake off, and it's ready to go for another round. -) Designed with good structural ribs, robust feet, and a nice grab handle/tabs sticking up from the middle and out the sides. All this means that it sits flat and doesn't flop around and spill your egg while you're moving it to/from the microwave. -) Rigid *clear* plastic lid with vent holes, grab handle in middle. This sits loosely on top of the base, around a small molded ridge. With its fairly large volume and only gravity holding it in place, it releases steam pressure around all sides quickly by just rising a bit, and doesn't go flying off as I've seen with some other poachers. -) Cleans up well in the dishwasher or sink. Just put the base in the dishwasher top rack sideways -- otherwise the crannies on the bottom will collect water and not drain during the cycle. -) It actually makes decent moist runny-yolk poached eggs.

I bought it for my wife who didn't really like it, but I think it's awesome. She likes the one-egg type with the hinge that always breaks. This one is durable, easy to use, and you can choose to cook one or two eggs easily in one go.

I purchased another one of these poachers when I forgot to take my original poacher to the rental property on an extended vacation. There were cheaper options certainly but this poacher is better than anything else I have tried and makes excellent poached eggs in the microwave in under a minute.
