American Negro Poetry: An Anthology (American Century)

The book was delivered earlier than expected, was in excellent condition, and is truly a phenomenal collection of poems!!

I was introduced to this anthology in high school - I am now in my sixties. I have purchased this book for a number of people and I have loved sharing it, reading it and reciting it over and over and over again. This is such a part of America. How I wish that slavery never came to our shores, that racial discrimination was not burned into our country in so many ways, but I truly believe that unless we, and I'm speaking as a white person from immigrants who migrated from Eastern and Northern Europe - unless we listen, really listen then we will always be trapped in this circle of distrust, disrespect and unfounded hatred. This is the beauty of poetry - it can open our souls and help us understand.

This is an updated edition of a book I purchased in the early 1970s. My treasured original was lost sometime during one of my many moves since then. After searching for a replacement for decades I am thrilled to have finally found a replacement, especially an expanded one in such great condition.

I first bought this book in 1967- have bought many copies over the years. I used it to supplement the text in a 10th grade classroom- the students loved the poetry as did I.

Bought as gift, mom loves it. She lost hers long ago.
