Perfect squirrel defence
Have two of these with one for nuts the other fat balls. All the birds love them including wood peckers and they’re much sturdier than those they’re replacing. We get nut hatches, great tits, blue tits and wood peckers that all use these without squirrels being able to raid them. It also prevents pigeons, crows, magpies and jackdaws which we have problems with but since putting these up they don’t bother with our garden now.I just wished they had some sort of similar feeder that ground feeding birds could access like sparrows, blackbirds and robins but the aforementioned squirrels and pest birds can’t.

Sturdy feeder
I was initially concerned the birds would have trouble accessing the feeder through the small bars but seem to be getting plenty of visitors now who have figured it out. The lid provides good cover, preventing the nuts from getting as soggy as previous feeder. Only downside is that it's quite heavy and need to find a strong branch on the wild rose where I hang my feeders.

Resists squirrels, but flawed drainage design.
It took the birds some time to adjust to this but after two weeks they were happily getting stuck in to the nuts. The squirrels tried at first but eventually gave up. Had this in place for some time now and don't like the inadequate drainage which means if you don't keep it very clean, a pool of water gathers in the base plate. I have remedied this by prising the four shallow drainage slots into a wider shape with a flat bladed screwdriver. It still rewires cleaning fairly frequently however. I help the birds gain access to nuts by refilling with a mixture of whole and broken peanuts. Also find that putting a handfull through the bars into the bottom 'bowl' is welcomed by them including woodpeckers that can just reach in though the bars have widened a couple of gaps for them. Long tailed tits (go for the broken nuts in the bottom) have recently joined the visitors which includes Great tits, Coal tits, and Blue tits.HAVE OVERCOME WATER PROBLEM - I now fill the bottom 1/3 of the peanut holder with medium gravel, Greatly improves drainage and helps stop the bottom layers of nuts becoming mouldy. Have also further widened the drainage holes.

nut feeder
I am a little disappointed with this item as I bought it for the great tits who don't have a chance to feed before the squirrel has emptied the regular feeder. However they are very reluctant to use it as the space between the bars it too small for them. They do squeeze in as a last resort if all the other feeders are empty but it was their present! It is great for the blue and coal tits and they are happy with it, if the bars were fractionally wider apart it would be great.

Robust and easy to clean
This feeder is sufficiently well made to be resistant to squirrel chewing. It is easy to dismantle so that it can be properly cleaned.

It has so far thwarted the squirrels
Really nicely made and feels sturdy. It's been in use for a month and a bit now and so far the squirrels have been kept at bay. My mother reports that various types of woodpecker have been able to use it quite happily, as well as the usual smaller birds.

Garden Feature
I read how other buyers had found that this item kept Squirrels AND Birds out of the feeder. This was not out experience. The birds LOVE IT... I would certainly recommend it to anyone who likes feeding different species of birds! It's very robust too :-)
