Wanderer - Origins (Wanderer's Odyssey Book 4)

The universe might end.
I liked the character building, the ship interaction with Jess, and the plot designed for continuous action. I disliked the way the Empire turned to killing innocents when its leaders believed there was no way to stop the "Taint": where were the scientists in this race and why rely on just brute force?

Not sure what to say, I will not go 5 stars on this, even though I will buy #5 and continue with this series. but here is the things I did not like: 1 Simon need to go more in-depth with Jess. He is the main/1B character of this series, but yet, Clay and Sal, seemed to have more of a full character than Jess. 2. Seems that is about all Jess gets into, one impossible situation after another, ones that should not be getting out of, yet he does. gotta ease up on some of these far fetched crisis answers. 3. finally, a personal pet peeve. I honestly cannot remember if it was the word character, or community, something along that lines. sorry old age got me. but this word, had been use in each book, and each time it us misspelled. I think that the spell check keeps missing this. not a biggie, just keeps catching my eye on that misspelled word.

A fun si-fi to read
As with all of the series, this book was an enjoyable read. I like to read books like this author for easily listening and pleasure. The story line is a little outrageous but even considering this I would read the series again, as I am also now waiting for the next book in the series to come out. The author keeps adding little things in to keep the story line moving at a good clip and you can neve rreally be sure exactly what is going to happen next.

Hmm, well…
Reflecting on the first three instalments of this series, I found the first good, the second _brilliant_ and the third good, even though dialog was a consistent weakness in which ‘conversations’ would read at times like an exchange of news accounts! Elevating the second work was a grander conception of how humanity might expand into the universe yet achieve no solutions to problems we face now.Marring this present instance is that Jess, the primary character, was entirely predictable throughout. In other words, his character and thought failed to develop despite his many opportunities to learn from close calls, usually with the same foe!I tolerated a level of ‘naivety’ and ‘immaturity’ in earlier works because Jess was 16 years old and spent his developmental years in slavery. By now though it would be nice to see some evidence of personal growth, and some effort to predict his opponents’ actions. To do so would also give the author scope to address some of the more interesting, promising and even provocative elements of his vision, which would also make this more than just the long battle saga it threatens to become.Having generally enjoyed the series so far I _may_ persist through at least the next instalment, but in it I need to see evidence that Simon Goodson refreshed his vision and explored some of the promising possibilities generated in the first four parts.

Tainted?
I think the author should have done a lot more research and thinking on this idea. I can't see telepathy doing things like causing black webbing to grow on people or altering their DNA. But overall I do love the Wanderer ship. It is like a living creature. It is a great idea.

I liked the book
At times the suspenseful action dragged on a little to far so that you got to where you contemplated jumping ahead, to wind it up. I liked the book. you have basically two types of science fiction in the space opera venue. Those that have a base in known science but extrapolate on it , taking it to it's maximum possibilities along current theories that are somewhat accepted and these taken the max. The other is the type that doesn't adhere to most accepted science but stretches the imagination embroiling it in a fanciful plot that will stretch your mind to picture what is happening on the written page. This is that type of book. If you enjoy this type of space opera then you will definitely enjoy this book as well as the whole series.

Get It!
I have read all 4 installments and cannot wait for the next one. Edge of the seat stuff! If you like Sci-Fi like I do, then this is for you.I have never really liked books that jump from one scenario to another, but this writer has managed to do it without you losing where you are. Expertly done! A great mix of action and a love interest which is not over the top. Please hurry up with the next episode!
