Rip-roaring action!
Great start to what will hopefully be a great trilogy. I don't think I've read any of Byers' works before, but am a long-time fan of Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. It's been nice to pick up a few new stories in the series after a few years, and dive back into the joys of these books. This story has it all - dragons, elves, wicked sorcerers and great action scenes. The storyline moves along rapidly, and the reader is always entertained, never left behind or rushed. This first book has ended on a great thread of cliffhangers, and I look forward to getting into the second book.

Sheer Greatness
This is one great book, I got into the Realms from Salvatores Dark Elf Trilogy, but I think this book is even better! It has a definate storyline, not too much pointless sidetracking which always helps, also there arent that many scene jumps or too many different things happening at the same time, this makes it a very easy book to understand whats going on, without making it any less exciting or enjoyable! All of the characters in this book have a deffinate personality, I personally love the way Pavel is portrayed and like the situation Byers puts him in, with his god and all that is going on around him.Overall a great book, the quickest I have ever read a book to be honest, now Ive tried reading two other books but nothing matches this one, so, I cant wait till December when the anthology comes out, but I guess we all have to wait till 2005 for the real magic to kick up again!

Fantastic Book
The Rage, by Richard Lee Byers, is Book 1 in The Year Of Rogue Dragons Trilogy set in the Forgotten Realms universe. The book focuses on a group of dragon hunters - including a half-golem, an arctic dwarf, a hafling thief and a priest of Lathander, although other companions are added as the novel progresses - as they are swept up in events beyond their understanding and control and have to act because they are the only people in a position to do so.The book itself is fantastically well written with great character development and description as well as a good clear plot. The author introduces many different types of dragon during the novel and quickly, clearly and easily explains their abilities and appearances without it becoming repetitive or breaking up the action. The action sequences themselves are also exceptionally written, allowing the reader to easily grasp the size difference between the combatants and creating perfectly choreographed fight scenes.Overall, this is a great book that will definitely appeal to any Forgotten Reams fan but should also appeal to almost any fantasy novel fan in general, as this book is so well written that the majority of the novel can easily be enjoyed without any prior Forgotten Realms knowledge.

All the rage...
I enjoyed this book very much. The plot is interesting, the characters well drawn and the book itself pacy and action-packed. Plus it has lots and LOTS of dragons (it is about dragons, after all). Without revealing too much, dragons are beginning to go mad and the characters need to find out why, and stop it before the whole of Faerunian civilisation is ripped to pieces. The author wrote the first of the War of the Spider Queen series (the best one, in my opinion) and this is what persuaded me to buy this. The author clearly understands the rules, too (perhaps too much - the Draconomicon is raided for new dragon types perhaps too frequently) which is nice. One of the pleasures of books like these is how they make the setting "breathe" more than the rule books. The only problem I have now is the wait for the next installment.

An action-packed, tense read...
I ordered this book with an order of 8 other Forgotten Realms books, and, though others were just as good, none were better. The hero of this book, while a cliched orphan, more than makes up for it with his strange "golem body", which leads me to my first point to this books "greatness".Battle scenes! The action was fast-paced, and moved quickly. I was never entirely sure what was going to happen next. The Characters! Every character, I sympathised with and liked - especially the arch-villain... and the dragons. There is a part in the book which, while you were expecting, is still horrifying - the writer writes this part of the book very effectively. This is definitely a book to read. The only reason it did not gain 5 stars was... well... no book is perfect, is it?
