how thick is the leather? and will it protect me from an exploding angle grinder disc?

The leather on this is thick about 1/8th inch. Best welding jacket I’ve owned. It will definitely protect you from your grinder. I’m 6’ 1” 230 lbs and the large fits me. If you like it real loose get the extra large. I love this thing.

Does the yellow leather stain your clothes?

If you get the leather moist there is a chance it’s going to stain clothing. We rinsed ours to help get rid of the smell and haven’t had a single issue with staining. There was TONS of color in the rinse water and it discolored our tub for a bit though so the potential is there.
