Cutting out shampoo and conditioner almost ruined my hair
I tried no shampoo for over a year. I really gave it a massive effort. My hair is so oily it could provide the energy requirements of a small town on the oil it produces. So I was used to washing it daily for decades. After a year of no shampoo and trying everything else, I now wash it every 3-4 days when in a cooler climate, every 2 days in a tropical climate. That's the only good thing to come out of this experiment.I tried ACV. It stinks and NO it does not wash out. My kid complained of the smell. Fair enough.I tried conditioner only washing, that works on alternate days for sure, but don't kid yourself it's "not chemicals". It's all chemicals.I ended up using simple bar soap for months. My hair was always slightly greasy, and the ends got drier and drier. Now I use a bond restructuring shampoo, conditioner and styling products. My hair is so much better, the ends don't dry out so much, and I can now grow it much longer. Science trumps bs everytime.

Very helpful - did not know what to use after giving up shampoo and conditioner.
I had to give up shampoo, conditioner, and ALL SOAPS for health reasons, as they were making me very ill. It has been 8 months since I stopped all soaps and my symptoms have improved so much it is like living in a different body! But my hair was very tangled and unmanageable after months of using primarily baking soda and salts. I had moved on to honey and milk in the bathtub for washing my hair and it helped a lot, but the information in this book was beyond helpful! I wish I had read it sooner! I now understand why my hair was so tangled and how to fix it! And I have the best options now for washing and conditioning my shampooless hair! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to stop poisoning themselves with chemicals in soaps, shampoos, conditioners.

My poor eyebrows!
I have plucked my eyebrows almost to obscurity. Fickle fashion.Thank you for doing the research for this lovely book. In the past I tried to wait as long as possible between washes but still used shampoo and silicone based conditioner. Hair coming out by the handfuls. My normally thin lank hair is starting to have volume and look rather lush. Not so much hair coming out in my brush either. Whee!Plus, who wouldn't be happy to stick it to the chemical companies? Up the No Poo Revolution!

I knew I was doing it right!
I went no poo 2 years ago after doing some internet research about shampoo that turned my stomach. I couldn't believe what I was actually doing to my hair! So I tried bicarbonate of soda and I've never touched shampoo since, it's been an absolute revelation, my hair looks and behaves so much better, no dandruff, no greasy sticky hair, and it is so much more healthy, split ends no more.If you arnt sure, read the book and then try it, you will be surprised at the results.

Comprehensive and fun to read
Finally a comprehensive guide to "making the switch", all in one book! I appreciated the author's humorous, accessible writing style and all the troubleshooting tips. The sample day-by-day instructions for the first couple months were really helpful.

I LIKE IT!
I do like it, it is brave and bold! To change something so personal and private as our hair, well it is the single most rewarding way to: stick it to the man, clean up the earth, unite the people from any walk of life around the planet, and protect our kids and their furniture. Not to mention...we are more beautiful for it, in many ways. : )

A resource for trying "no poo"
I wanted some direction in going shampooless. This book gives you much need advice from a person who has gone shampooless. Also gives several alternative natural ingredients to use when cleansing your hair to help you find the right formula for your hair type. The author also includes paragraphs from other "no pooers" to help you on your journey to no shampoo hair.

Helpful advice and fun to read
Saw this book advertised whilst doing research into shampoo alternatives. So glad that I found it - lots of useful advice, and tips that I'd never have thought of in a million years. If anyone had told me that a raw egg would be my new favourite 'shampoo', I'd have thought they'd lost the plot - yet here I am, 12 weeks in, shampoo free (sorry, I still can't bring myself to use the 'no-poo' phrase....) and my hair and scalp have never felt so good. The book is really easy to read, and made me laugh (in a good way) several times. One word of caution though - if anyone is tempted to use Amla powder, it is reported to cause the hair to darken - great of you're fighting the greys, but this is the last thing I want as I love my hard-earned organic (aka silver) highlights! Just wish it was available in print - that's just a personal preference though.

I have literally never had hair this good
As a curly, I've tried everything over the years. When I read this book I was fresh from a failed foray into the world of the Curly Girl Method, having spent several hundred quid on various silicone/paraben free products and ended up with more frizz than ever.My kids were disgusted when I said I was going to stop using shampoo and conditioner. Two months on, they're still occasionally disgusted by things I put in my hair (vinegar, sometimes egg) but no longer are they questioning the results because my hair looks amazing! Zero frizz! I didn't believe it was possible to no longer be frizzy. Not only that, but it is so shiny and healthy looking and consistently falls into the type of ringlets I used to dream of. Yesterday at work I had compliments from two separate people. I am 45 years old and believe me, I will take those compliments and keep them in my back pocket, oh yes.Shampoo is a conspiracy to give you crap hair and keep you purchasing!Be brave, buy a bristle brush (or vegan alternative like mine, works great) and take the plunge. Especially if you're curly. Also highly recommend Lucy's other beauty book (homemade deodorant, works a dream, no more premium Wild subscription for me...)

All fired up!
A great read. I never thought I'd go without shampoo, I've always been a daily shampooer due to greasy hair since early adolescence. However Lucy has inspired me, it's a quick easy & informative book.I've started off by reducing my shampoo habit to every second day, with the odd water wash instead of shampoo on the second day & today took the plunge, used the bicarbonate of soda wash to remove a couple of days worth of "dirt" & styling product from my very short hair. I'm impressed with how clean & soft it feels. Obviously early days but I'm praying I get off lightly during the transition phase...

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Awesome, was pretty broke when considering whether to buy this or not and- although I have read her blog and such and love her style of writing and great ideas- was pretty hesitant to spend the small amount of money to buy it. But, after searching the Internet at various times for what seemed like ages and not really getting anywhere trying to find more than 2 alternatives for shampoo I bought this, and I'm so glad I did! I have been no poo for a few months now and I love it, I was just using cowashes for a while before this but didn't realise you could give it all up! It's great to have the guide right there on my kindle so I can refer to it whenever I need too (it's got great recipes for hair products too) also now I just wash my babies hair with water and rub it all with a flannel and it's lovely too, beautiful, chemical free and he smells like his gorgeous wee self!Ooh do watch with the egg wash in here though as I (rather stupidly as you are warned) decided that it would be pretty hard for the water to be hot enough to scramble it so I used warm water before putting the egg on and tepid instead of cold water on the rinse, not entirely sure which one, or if it was a combination of both that caused the problem but I ended up with wirey feeling hair with bits of cooked egg coming off it! Took ages to comb and wash it all out....I'm an idiot.

I use water only to wash my hair and my hair has never looked so good. It actually has some body to it now
I have been putting the recommendations in this little book into practice for some weeks now and have not looked back. I use water only to wash my hair and my hair has never looked so good. It actually has some body to it now.Without telling my hairdresser when I went for a trim that I was washing my hair with water only, I asked him if he thought my hair was in good condition. He said it was in very good condition, neither too dry nor too oily.I then told him I had been using only water to wash it for some weeks now.He made no comment. As he sells shampoo in his salon perhaps it was not a very tactful thing to tell him!
