What I needed for Electrical
This is a tool to have for me, in my opinion. My opinion means nothing, but it works for me.Will this be a great tool for you? It depends. If you need to locate just studs in a wall some DIY stuff…then there are more affordable options. If you are like me…installing car chargers and drilling through brick and concrete walls…this might give you a fighting chance along with having experience in the trades or engineering. For me, I couldn’t care about if an object in a wall is electrical (live/dead), gas, or plumbing. I just don’t want to hit it. I know studs are 16” or 24” on center roughly. I know gas, plumbing, electric usually ain’t uniformed in a wall. For me, I just want to hit a stud on a wall to mount something or drill through a cement/brick/drywall and not hit anything.I need a tool that will sound off about anything suspect in a wall. That’s it period. This is the best tool for that. 4” deep scan read on brick or cement wall is wicked good. There are $1k plus scanners that give percentage rates of failure but still no definitive yes or no’s.

$250 stud finder
This is basically a $250 stud finder. It DOES NOT find electricity or pipes in the wall. Only time It showed an electric hazard is if I held it on a receptacle. We'll I know there is power there. The box and plug in gave that away. Terrible value and terrible product. I have a $10 stanley stud finder that does the same thing. DO NOT BUY!

Great product, but has a couple limitations.
This can be a very useful tool. It worked great at what is supposed to do, but there are two important limitations that are leading me to return the product. The first limitation is that you need a relatively flat/smooth surface for this to work reliably. I needed to scan a poured concrete ceiling for electrical. The problem is that the ceiling has popcorn texture on it. You can get around this by removing the texture, but that can create a lot of additional work and mess. The second limitation is that it only detects "unshielded" electrical. The electrical I was scanning for is in steel conduit. It does find the steel conduit, but it can't distinguish between rebar/conduit in concrete.I did a few tests and this works great in general. I wish I could keep it, but it's just too expensive given that it can't do the one thing I bought it for (finding shielded electrical in concrete). If I didn't have this issue, I would probably rate this 4 or 5 starts.

Expensive
If it was cheaper would be worth the money. Expect it to be more capable for the price, but it does a lot better than standard stud finder. Doesn't work for going through shingles to find joists in roof

Semi - Professional Stud Finder
The accuracy of this finder is amazing. I needed to locate a stud behind a gypsum wallboard faced with ceramic tile. The stud had to be precisely located to securely screw in a safety grab bar in our bathroom. Merely slide the detector along the surface until the signal strength indicator is maxed and the center crosshairs illuminate. That's the centerline of the stud plus or minus 1/2 inch. The composition of the wall or floor material can be selected on the finder if known. Choices are wallboard, concrete or universal. Finder works very well at the universal setting. There is an audio tone to assist the visual indication. By default it's "on". Technology of the device is based on a radar detector rather than inexpensive magnetic or capacitance devices. Main benefit of the dtud finder is the confidence in accurate results it gives to the user. Bosch also makes professional use versions of the finder at very much higher cost. Manufacturer claims the device can locate hollow pipes and electrical conductors but I did try these uses.

Disappointing Performance considering the high cost
I had high hopes for the BOSCH D-TECT 120 Wall and Floor Detection Scanner, but unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. Unlike the overseas version, the US version does not accept Bosch's 12v batteries, which was disappointing. Additionally, while the device does find many items within the wall, it does not differentiate wall studs from pipes, wires, or other items to avoid. While it sometimes detected live wires, this is a hit-or-miss proposition at best. Overall, it is too expensive to be as unreliable as it is. There are detectors that are much cheaper with similar performance in standard drywall situations. Perhaps if it is used to detect items within concrete, then it might be worth the cost. Overall, I would not recommend this product unless you have a specific need for detecting items within concrete and are willing to overlook its shortcomings.

Really works!
I have a complicated setup. 1929 Tudor, plaster on top of what looks and feels like concrete with chicken wire as a base. All covered with thin, but nice, wood paneling. Installing a tv mount was hit or miss. Mostly miss. This thing found the studs and I was able to bolt on the TV mount. I’m very, very impressed!
