Warrior's Ransom (The First Argentines Book 2)

This isn’t the most action packed of the series I’ve liked but I pull it out during a long drive and listen to it. The fountain blessed tale is intriguing and I like the characters. Some are hopelessly flawed but random Jews his honor no matter what. Decent amount of romance if not a little too much. But I’ll keep it as my to audio book for now.

I am surprised at how much I am enjoying reading The First Argentines series. In this second book, Ransom has grown into the role of being a true knight. He has learned well, the politics of rival factions and the importance of loyalty. 'Warrior's Ransom' is well written and flows nicely between the different perspectives of the main characters. The Audible performance by Kate Rudd is outstanding and an excellent companion to the written words by author Jeff Wheeler.

I've read a couple of series. Now I am hooked. Exciting without graphic viilence, sex or foul language. Honor, duty and respect with excellent twists and turns. On to book 3!

This second book was even better! The twists and turns just keep getting better! I can’t wait to read book 3! Thank you Mr. Wheeler. You are amazing.

Another wonderful book, in probably one of my favorite worlds.I couldn`t put this book down until I finished it. What a read!

First, he makes you speed-turn the pages like your fingers are on fire. Secondly, his themes of loyalty, redemption, and desire are neatly universal. Then, there’s a coy innocence to his development of female characters which makes you believe he has a chivalrous heart even if he falls short of creating a sophisticated and complex fictional woman. Also his battle scenes are first rate for the genre. As is usual with the second book of his typical multi-title series, it loses a touch of the magic. But Jeff Wheeler gave Ransom book 2 some fresh moments and a satisfying ending! Overall, I loved it. Mine currently is the top review of the first book in this Ransom series, check it out as it details my main problem with Jeff Wheeler, the writer. He’s completely embraced Amazon’s drug dealer algorithm of novelists hooking the reader by releasing “part” novels every three months. This formula is frustrating to many a reader especially yours truly! Jeff, release a full sized book, not these teasers, and you’ll have your moment of literary apotheosis. Continue this formula and you may end up forgotten and eventually unread. Learn from the brilliant calculus of Jeff Bezos, Chief Author of Amazon itself: go all in or go home! That said, to all my fellow Jeff Wheeler fans, you will almost certainly like, if not love, this book! Highly recommended.

Hate to be the bearer of sad tidings but the second book in the Argentine series is a cop-out, a cynical way of making money out of a well-written and engaging first book in a series of 4 fantasy novels based roughly on Arthurian legend and medieval chronicles.Whereas the first book wove an intricate web of dynastic battles, magical powers and contrasting characters this book relied upon the reader's previous engagement to keep them hooked. Unfortunately, it was superficial and lacking in credibility, with characters acting in predictable, almost stereotypical ways to achieve their ambitions and the hero, Sir Ransom, battling through all odds to win in the end. The intrigue of the first book was sorely lacking, with an inevitable finale and a far from satisfactory conclusion to the war between King Devon and his sons.

Read this series with an open mind, expect to be on your toes from start to finish. The few criticisms I have would be a spoilers, but to be honest, they’re not even worth mentioning. Read the book cause it’s really really good. I love the depth of characters and how that’s achieved from a single character’s perspective. Characters like King Devon, do you love them or hate them ? I really like this book because no matter how it would have ended, that ending would have made sense. Almost feels like at certain points Jeff didn’t even know what was going to happen. A book for you fantasy veterans, bringing something new and carrying underlying moral themes and lessons applicable to our lives. With hundreds of the best fantasy titles behind me, I thought my page turning days were behind me but book 2 done in 36 hours (had to sleep). Thank you Jeff !!

Better than the first book in this new series and I enjoyed reading both the books. This is full of twists and turns, fights, romance, suspense and above all magic. I can't wait for the third book. I am filled with joy while reading the book following the plot and sadness when nearing the end of the book, as I have to wait for the next in the series! Strong female and male characters. It is strange that whoever becomes the King of Kingfountain, appears to take on much of the persona of Henry VIII. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Great characters, nice to see Ransom growing older and wiser. I always feel nervous for him that his luck will change, but I’ll just have to read the rest of the series to find that out. Wheeler is a great storyteller and weaves a fine tale of daring gamesmanship. This a nice story of adventure, lots of battles, both of the mind and body to keep the story moving.

I’m beginning to hate Jeff Wheeler! Such a thief of time! He’s one of those authors you just can’t put down. Nothing gets done until I’ve finished his book. Even then my head is filled with the sounds and scents of his medieval fantasy worlds.Now I wait for the next two in this series! 😱
