Better Than The Average 2D Side Scrolling Platform
I picked this game up for $11.95 from Amazon.com a month ago (Sept 2011) and was very pleased with the game. This game doesn't get very high marks from video game review websites, therefore I decided to write my own short review. I personally like this game, and I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. It is basically a Nintendo clone of their 2D Side Scrollers such as Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong Country with some Pitfall Game feel to it. If you like these type games and can pick it up for a nice mark down of the $39.95 retail price like I did, I suggest that you get it. This game is not for hard core gamers but is suited more to an intermediate skill level. It may be a little tough for younger children as another reviewer stated. If that is the case, please visit wiisave.com and download the 100% save for this game. This will allow those having difficulty progressing through the game to have access to locked trails.Your challenge is to get Yogi to the end of each park trail by avoiding park animals, falling off cliffs, falling into lakes, or having falling rocks crush him. In all there are 18 trails for Yogi to finish with gradually increasing difficulty. Each trail has around 5 checkpoints so that you do not have to complete a trail completely with only one life. There are 3 hidden merit badges and 8 hidden pic-n-nic baskets to find along each trail. You will need to collect about 75% of the merit badges so that Ranger Jones will allow you to enter the next park section. There are 4 Park Sections and each section has 4 to 5 trials. Each Section of the park has a trail where Yogi will use a flying machine, called the Basket Grabber 2000, to fly through an obstacle course. This is a knock off of Donkey Kong's hot rocket, but is played a little differently because you use the D-Pad to control the Basket Grabber 2000. The flying trails are the most difficult and that is why they are located at the end of each park section. There are picnic areas in each section of the park where Yogi will have to crawl, run and jump to avoid being seen by the Campers on the trail.Graphically the game looks like a Yogi cartoon, which works well. I personally don't have a problem with the graphics or the music. The game controls work really well and are very responsive. The game keeps up with continues used and once you make it through the game once, your next challenge should be to complete this game with zero continues. Since there are many pies to collect on the trails and 50 pie slices gets you an extra life, this should be an obtainable goal. The game automatically saves your progress. The game has three save files which is nice if you have more than one wanting to play this game, but the game is a single player, so only one can play at a time.Bottom Line... This game is better that the average 2D Side Scroller and it is better than the critical reviews it is getting from game web sites. While Yogi Bear is certainly not on the level of Donkey Kong Country Returns, I personally prefer playing Yogi Bear over Wii New Super Mario Brothers, which I feel is over rated.
