Need to replace one glass that came with ship decanter, are these the same size?

They are very close. The base on these is a little wider, which you really cannot see but feel in the recessed area of the decanter. I kept the original glass in the cabinet and put both these in.

Can these go in the dishwasher or do they have to hand washed?

I have put mine in the top rack without issues once or twice, but they are relatively delicate so I prefer to hand wash. Buy a couple extra cause you will end up breaking them if you use them for what they are supposed to be used for.

Would these glasses hold up if we had a personalization etched onto once of the continents?

I’m no expert on these things but i will say that it held up when it was originally etched. Good Luck

Are these glasses actually etched? Or just printed like some other similar items?

Although I would say these are better quality than similar items on Amazon (I've tried a few), they are not etched either. If you run your fingernail along the glass surface, it catches when you get to the land masses, which means they are on the surface and not etched into the glass. Having said that, I have only hand washed them with dish soap and they have held up very well.
