Would this pick up rocks that have been thrown into the grass?

Only rocks that are the size of an English walnut or golf ball. It will not pick up small rocks for you would have to go to a smaller nut wizard.

Does it pick up 9mm brass

I have not tried to pick up brass casing with it. I think it would because you press down and the wire open and close around the nut. I think they might try and come back out because of the diameter of the casing.

Would this pick up sticky mulberries?

I think that they would get stuck to the wires. The wires are made to bend a little as they contact the object, and then they spring back into position after the object gets into the cage. Something sticky would likely, well, stick to the wires! But I believe that you can contact the company directly to ask. Look for the company name on the page for the item.

Does the axel the basket rolls on have a bearing in it, a bushing in it, or something else?

Just a bushing of sorts, the clothes hanger shaped frame is about 3/16" diameter and "socket" on the basket spins on it. Wife has picked up buckets and buckets of Burr Oak acorns over the years with a failure
