What's the shortest length you can use . It only really need 1m?thanks .

I think it comes in meter lengths that clip together. You can also twist it to double back on itself and my husband seemed to think you could cut it .

Do you have to use the remote/button to switch them on or do they come on as soon as power is supplied (say using the socket switch)

You don't have to use the remote. You can use the socket switch instead if you want. I would highly recommend these lights (if they're still available). Hope this helps.

If using these in 2 parallel lines, what is the max distance between the lines please? I want to use on 2 shelves about 35 cm apart. Thanks

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you mean. There is a generous amount of cable, and I think there should be enough If you are lighting 2 shelves 35cm apart. They do supply extender cables to go around corners etc, you could always use these if you need more cable length between the 2 lines. It's very easy to connect. Hope this helps.
