DIY Hacker's Help
I'm no carpenter, just a DIY hack, but with a bit if practice this is a very useful addition to my garage armoury. I bought it originally to shape the ends of my rowing boat oar handles, but I now find that it has so many other applications. Easy to adjust, nice and sharp, good size. Good price too.

Quality product
I needed this to take a small shaving off the bottom of a door as I don't have a wood plane. Worked well and low cost. Easy to use but a little fiddly to align the blade.

Common issues on all cast tools.
Why did you choose this product over others?: Okay so: this has the same issue all cheap cast tools have these days. The base wasn't flat (and was painted for some reason), so I had to use some sandpaper and finally an whetstone to flatten it out. The blade wasn't massively sharp or honed either, so again had to flatten that out and then sharpen it. Weirdly the chip breaker seemed okay once I cleaned the paint of the underside. Usage wise: the adjustment is finnicky because the locking screws on the corners.... don't. So you're better off getting it semi-level with them, tighten down the cap hand tight, then do final adjustment with the leveling screws again before absolutely clamping the cap down. Relying on the adjustment screws is a fools game. Honestly not a bad casting however other than the paint issues. But then again, you get what you pay for and for 9 quid it's ended up reasonably serviceable for the amount of work I do.

GREAT !!!
Best tool I've bought in ages. Manages to fine shave newly fitted doors without having to take them off repeatedly and plane them again. Use it all the time now and saves me tons of unnecessary work.

Works good enough
All my doors are sticking so I obviously tried a bit of sandpapering but it made no impression, so I used the electrical sander but it made no difference again except to fill the room with dust, so I needed something to take it down more but without the mess. So I used this tool and it did take off some curls of wood and then I was able to hand sand afterwards. It seems it only works if the blade is quite a way out as I tried it at the minimum at first as I didn't want to take off too much, but it didn't do anything; so you still have to use the sandpaper after to make sure you don't take off too much as I personally would only do one pass of this at the most sticking point then as I said, fine tune it with sandpaper. So it works good enough, I would recommend giving it a go.

It came adequately sharpened. It actually needed some additional set up but I expected that. I spent maybe 3 minutes on the whetstone then about a minute stopping with leather it to razor sharpness. It took longer to adjust the depth but once I got it tuned up it was taking paper thin peelings from my maple longbow. I am very happy with it. I've been shaving it for about three hours now. It hasn't lost any sharpness so it is obviously good quality steel. Some are complaining about sharpness but their complaints are probably misdirected. The secret is to get it adjusted properly and used properly. It's like any other planer you can buy. Even the high quality planers need regular sharpening stropping and adjusting. I recommend this one for occasional use. If you're a pro, maybe spend the money for a better one. Forthe backyard or garage use this is a great buy.
