The Imitation of Christ: A Spiritual Commentary and Reader's Guide

I decided to get a headstart on some Lenten 2023 reading and am pre-reading the Imitation of Christ, which is going to be offered on the Hallow app with Jonathan Roumie and Jim Caviezel. This version is so accessible and I really appreciate the commentary and thinking points presented - these provide beautiful and challenging reflections for Lectio Divina.This is a book that must be approached and lived in bites. I’ve only just started it and understand how this can be a complete life changer. The introduction puts the work in context (the world was much different back then) and alerts the reader how to approach “The Imitation of Christ” - I find this to be so valuable.For an approachable and readable option, I recommend this version.

This book will certainly make me a stronger and more pleasing servant of God.

The added intros and questions for each chapter help a lot

I've been trying to find a good translation of this classic work. As a linguist, I watch for drift from the original work, and this translation holds to the original, while getting rid of the "thou wouldst" etc. That make reading this so difficult for a modern reader.The translator also does not shy away from the difficulties of a centuries old text written for those living in a monestary, but uses them as discussion points.Overall, this is the best translation I have found.

There are lots of Kempis versions and I'm sure you will benefit from all of them, but this is my favorite of the ones I have seen (3 different ones). Why - here:*the translation is remarkably clean and concise. Creasy did a truly wonderful job with what at times can be difficult material but difficult reading never becomes difficult comprehension.*the introductions are priceless. Again, they add value to what is always an enriching text.*study questions for groups. Finally, at the end of each chapter the book offers a series of very penetrating questions suitable for group discussions of any type. This incredibly thoughtful touch by Fr. Billy sets this one apart.I can't recommend this version highly enough. Also, for those where this might be an issue, the typeset is fairly large so it is extremely easy on the eyes.

One of the most incredible books of finding yourself in finding Jesus! Very practical manual of how to live!

This book by Fr. Dennis Billy is a great presentation of a timeless spiritual classic. Each section situates the passage from Imitation of Christ with its commentary, and it concludes with reflection questions that are helpful for either one's personal spiritual reading or group discussion.

I got the particular volume I asked for in good condition.
