Product Description Follow James Gurney on the artistic adventure of a lifetime as he creates the 2013 dinosaur stamp art for Australia Post. Gurney treks to Museum Victoria to study original fossils with paleontologist Tom Rich, then heads into the Australian bush to study ancient plants. He shows every part of the creative process, from the unique design challenges of philatelic art to the construction of 3D reference maquettes, then the comprehensive drawing, the color planning, and the oil painting. Also includes 10 minutes of additional interview material with Dr. Tom Rich, an 8 minute narrated slideshow of development artwork and philatelic products, plus a 13.5 minute documentary on the making of Dinotopia, called Dinotopia: Art, Science, and Imagination. Stamp art and images ©Australia Post, reproduced with permission. Review Saw the DVD and loved it. He takes you through his whole process from concept to final. I liked seeing how he built his maquette and used it as part of the creative process. Great to see how free he is in every stage to experiment with ideas and make changes. Makes me want to go paint dinosaurs. --Stan ProkopenkoJames Gurney once again shares his masterful knowledge and creative imagination, giving us a glimpse into his own dinosaur kingdom. --Jason Dowd, Professor, Laguna College of ArtThis has to be one of the most informative and imaginative approaches to bringing painting instruction to students and professionals alike I have ever seen! The narrative is clear, concise and inspiring. The academic methods as seen from the over-the-shoulder cinematography provide us all with instruction which would otherwise require a trip back to the nineteenth century and a class with Les Animaliers. This video will certainly be viewed by all my Constructive Anatomy and Scientific Illustration students! --Paul Hudson, Accademia della Natura P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); About the Actor James Gurney is the author and illustrator of the bestselling Dinotopia book series.
