Avoid this kit!!! meh mat, horrendous pen
Awful kit. Do yourself a favor and buy the world market kit. It's 1/3 of the price and the mat is better.side by side, same batch of macarons:Mat:Lekue - nearly half of the macarons were stuck to the mat. even fully cooled it was a task to get them off in one piece. in most cases the shell popped off the top leaving the rest inside the ring on the mat. The macarons were properly cooked, they just seemed to separate at the ring between a top and bottom half.World Market - very easy to remove the macarons, a light oush on the edge and light twisting motion removed all but one which broke like 1/2 the LekuesDecomax Pen:Lekue - Abyssmal!!! the pen, one, does not come with a #12 tip, so you use the much smaller tip and watch half of the mix spew out of the supposedly well sealed top, or go tipless and have the opposite flow control problem out of the end. Stick with pastry bags, they are so much easier to control! The mix was not too thin or thick, it was exactly as it should be (slowly pours/drips off of the spatula)World Market - Did not use, one pen was enough for this adventure. It could not have gone any worse though. Why did I give it 2 stars? I'll be giving it another shot, and I won't give it one star unless it's entirely misrepresented or useless. the recipe booklet was handy for a couple of ideas, but it was not what I'd expect for a forty dollar kit. The world market mat and pen will run you all of thirteen dollars, use the rest to buy a couple pounds of almond meal and that amazing Les Petit Macarons book fabulous A++ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0762442581/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_34

This kit is terrible! The pastry bag is so hard to squeeze ...
I make French macarons all the time and my parents got me this kit for Christmas in hopes of making the process easier. This kit is terrible! The pastry bag is so hard to squeeze because the see through portion is hard plastic and the back deflates very easily. My thumbs hurt after spending a good hour trying to squeeze out all the batter from the impossible bag. No where in the recipe book or instructions does it say to grease the cooking sheet so I didn't think that I had to and normally don't when using parchment paper. The cookies stuck terribly to the sheet and I had a very hard time getting them off. French macarons are very fragile and I ended up breaking and cracking most of them; that or the whole inside of the cookie remained stuck to the sheet. The recipe book claims that the cookies will not expand past the molds on the sheet--this is very untrue. My cookies expanded over the ridges and ended up getting stuck together in huge globs. This kit is awful. Seriously, don't waste your money and buy it. I'll be sticking to parchment paper and a regular pastry bag and will never use this kit again!

... if I'm doing something wrong with this kit but like many others my macarons came out a complete flop
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong with this kit but like many others my macarons came out a complete flop, being stuck to the silicon mat. I did pipe a backup batch onto my regular parchment paper and baking sheet, and they came out great. Same baking time, temperature/oven. My guess is I might need to experiment with cooking times to account for the silicon mat but it looked like the macarons towards the outer edges of the mat baked faster than the center ones. Considering the amount of time you invest in making a batch of macarons the last thing I want is for them to be stuck to the baking mat :(The imprinted circles help with piping but I also think they're spaced a little to close to each other, so that when you tap the sheet to get rid of the air bubbles, they do tend to overflow and "connect" to their neighbour (and yes I was careful not to pipe too much batter for each circle).I didn't mind the pen for piping as it did help with controlling the flow of the batter.

I you are a macaron fan, you can't go wrong with this purchase
I bought this for my spouse who was complaining about her difficulties creating perfectly round macarons. Now I'm a little more round than I should be because she's baking macarons in bulk. We have a local French bakery, and for their prices, I figure I'm saving money with my wife baking them as opposed to buying them. Either way I'm eating more than I should.

Wish it worked better.
I am very disappointed with this. I have made macarons 5 times 3 on the mat and 2 on parchment paper. No matter what I did it do stuck to the mat and when I used the p paper it did not. I do however like the squeeze bottle and it comes with several attachments, with this in mind I think it is really overpriced and it is harder to clean the mat then you think it would be.

Came out great, first time making macs.
The Decomax pen worked great, but I wasn't a fan of the silicone baking mat. It was my first time making macarons, so I tried both the silicon and the parchment paper. Some of the cookies stuck to the silicon, while they came off the parchment paper beautifully.

Not sure
The mould baking mat is great as you can economically and evenly pipe out a good batch of macaroons, although I think you definitely need two or three of them as all the macaron recipes I have come across, produce a lot of macaroons even when halved. The piping bag is not great in my opinion. It's ok, does the job but difficult to squeeze out last few macarons due to its shape. Much easier to use disposable piping bags. Both disposable or this piping bag have their negatives and positives I suppose.
