Well worth it
I bought one to try it. I found it to be exactly what I had hoped for. It was smallish, meaning not huge like some of the products for solar are. It was not made of cheap plastic. The Crank worked well. The light was the most important thing. It was very bright for the size. I was worried that it would not light up well and I wanted a small solar light that I could pack well when I travel that would not be to heavy but that would be effective and light up an area. I wanted something that in an emergency would not need batteries and that if the solar ran out in the night, could be cranked to give sufficient light. I wanted to give these to my grandchildren for Christmas. My grandchildren are newborn to 17 years old. I wanted them to have their own lights in the night if the lights went out in a storm and that they could crank if the night was extra long and the solar went out. The light had to be bright enough to be effective for a child and also an adult. So I bought one for myself to first try. I was really impressed. I have carried it with me in my travels ever since as it is light, small, tough, and bright and charges very well by sun. I bought 23 more for the grandchildren. They are going to love them.

Tough and well made
I purchased 3 wind up emergency flashlights at my local hardware store, and have only used them infrequently. Unfortunately, even with light use, 2 out of 3 broke within a year or two. Since I really don't like to waste money on items that break so easily, I searched around a lot before getting this particular rechargable flashlight. It has an added bonus of having a small solar panel to help it charge, but the value I find it in is as simple as the feel of the flashlight in my hand. It's very sturdy and heavy. I can tell that it's parts are no where near as flimsy as the previously mentioned flashlights. This is a really tough little flashlight, and it's working great so far. The extended warranty from the company is reassuring. Great, bright light. Easy crank handle that has a good solid feel to it, easy to work. Tiny solar charger built in. Multifunction light (including flashing). If I had to stock a few more emergency kits, this would be my first choice for a flashlight.

Looks Good but Seems Ready to Break If It Hits a Rock
They said this was waterproof and I'm starting to wonder how exactly. I haven't tested it yet. It's held together by 6 small screws which probably means that it is "rain proof" but not submersibly water proof. But the advertisement does say it is submersible to 5m depth. Still not going to test it as I'm just going to take this with me and hope I don't drop it in water. The light is bright. I've cranked it high speed for at least 5-10 full minutes and it seems to be at its brightest. It has single light mode, triple light mode and flashing triple light mode and off. I'm using it and I hope the screws stay tight and don't strip or anything. I imagine the moment they do it becomes rain proof. I'll see how durable this thing is. I'm not sure but it could be durable but it just doesn't seem like it would withstand too many drops.

long lasting light
a great light with just 5 minutes of cranking the thing has power for a very long time. very good for when you need a flashlight for basic use. I wouldn't use it for a search and rescue as its not a long distance light but indoors, camping, in the car, and in emergency blackouts its the best light ever..

Excellent Flashlight - solar panel charges quickly and is very bright
Excellent Flashlight - solar panel charges quickly and is very bright. I was replacing an LL Bean Solar/Wind up, where the on/off button rubber cover was no longer seating correctly. Smaller solar/wind up flashlights weren't bright enough, so I tried this - glad I did ! I use it for reading late at night , which means 1 (of 3) LED lights will be on for couple hours without winding - this one does it with plenty of charge to go ! Well made and sturdy -

The best!
We absolutely love this flashlight! It works so well and we are truly impressed. It provides good light for longer than I have ever seen for this type of flashlight. Others that we have used are more of a novelty and truly not that functional. This one is different and I love the fact that it is waterproof. You can get others that have more bells and whistles, but you will NOT be getting the quality flashlight that this one is.

An excellent product
Good sturdy wind up or solar charged torch. An essential item to keep in the home, or vehicle, as no batteries required.. Good value for money. Far superior to previous types of wind-up torches.

Not best product for emergencies - contains a battery, not very bright.
(As described correctly by the seller) the product contains a battery and is 0.8 lumens. Probably not what you want in an emergency situation. You have to charge it every month according to the instructions in order to keep the battery healthy. Light is 0.8 lumens bright. This is not terribly bright, but would be better than nothing.

Best emergency light I've seen for a decent price.
My flashlight arrived well ahead of time, great. I recently made a bug out bag and put in a maglite 2C. Then I thought what if I can't find C batteries so in went the AA Flashlight. Two maglites plus batteries is way too heavy. As soon as I saw the photo of this light and saw the solar panel I knew this was a much better solution. Now my other problem, every time I show my friends something really great I get the same old tune "why didn't you get us one when you ordered yours". My response "amazon page link"get your own, ha. Tried it and it works perfectly for emergencies and regular use.BTW there are similar ones out there but this is the only one offering a 5 year warranty, it's a no brainer get this one. I'm going to get a carabiner to hook it to my pack.Emergency lights shouldn't need batteries. Hand crank and solar, you can't beat that. They included the 5 year warranty in the bill but it's built so tough I wouldn't worry, very solid construction.Update, May 2018.It's almost two years since my first review. I just ordered and received just today about an hour ago a second light along with a second folding accordian Lantern light that these same people make. This new one has the same tough casing but it's brighter and the cranking mechanism is tougher built, you can feel it when you wind it. I keep these ones in the windows for first response emergencies. They're always charging, ready to go, no need to keep regular batteries in flashlights wasting away. I call them first response and last resort flashlights for emergencies. Together with their accordian folding light you get directional and 360 lighting with multiple charging options possible. Makes a great emergency lighting kit.
