So far, so great.
My Mr. Coffee went kaputt a few weeks ago. It just kept powering off, wouldn’t stay on any longer. I originally bought a different coffee pot but it was too cheaply made and not worth saving a few bucks for. I like my traditional grounds coffee and how I make it at home is my favorite way. I drink a cup every morning so having a coffee pot that will hold up matters. I returned it and ordered this Black & Decker. So far I’m very happy with it. It’s sturdy. It seems well-made. There are no leaks and it brews my espresso grounds rather quickly. It’s digital, and you can program it. I can set it for the morning, and it’s ready when I wake up. Makes great tasting coffee. So far, I’ve had it almost a month, and I’m extremely happy with it. Brews up to12 cups and cleans easily, although it doesn’t have a clean option. Keeps coffee nice and hot for about 2 hours, and then automatically shuts off. I have to say, I recommend this coffee pot..

For the price, you can't beat it ! My other one lasted 15 years . No bells and whistles, just makes coffee like it should

Condition Issues
I've used this coffee maker for years and have been very happy with it. Replaced the old with new to match decor of our newly renovated kitchen. I had to return it after a few weeks because the spout on the carafe (with a new glass design vs. plastic) broke off while I was drying it off after rinsing it out (which I do daily). I was using a paper towel, so I can't explain how it broke so easily. No problem, though. Amazon quickly replaced it (thank you, Amazon). I noticed this morning, however when I was doing my daily cleaning of the machine, that there were scratches on the heating plate. I do not want to go through another return, but my review would otherwise have been a 5 star instead of 4.

Makes good coffee.
I read a bunch of reviews on this and saw yes several people sharing less than great experiences and some of those from descriptions could be from receiving a used or poorly packaged product. From those I figured out be a little careful with it. Mine came packaged very well, without even a blemish on a box corner on the outer packaging; so off to a good start. Brewed a great cup and about same speed as my Mr. Coffee that finally gave up the ghost earlier same day. Observations: Be careful with the lid; its easy to not put it on all the way correctly and feels slightly flimsy and read several notes about leaks. I've decided based on other reviews (when I remember to do so) to just turn it off when it is finished brewing rather than let it keep the pot warm for the 2 hours after. If I need a hit later I'll warm it up in the microwave. Some are sensitive to a freshly brewed pot me not as much I don't mind nuking already brewed even the next morning if there is still some from yesterday depending on how my mood is if I need it and don't want to go through the process. I don't use the program/timer. Personally I think putting the controls on the bottom underneath where the pot goes is asking for trouble I don't care how "rubberized" the buttons are there is a warmer element right beside all that stuff and sometimes I yank that sucker out of there while its still brewing you are bound to soak that stuff they should have put the controls in a better place but the delivery, unboxing, and fit of the carafe is good. P.S. I have read a number of complaints about the Sneak a Cup mechanism breaking or that the spring is too strong or that it self destructs so am approaching with care; ---I have noticed there seems to be a place where the carafe can be removed and replaced with less resistance so am noting here for future users. Its a little noisy but honestly I don't think that should be a concern; you're making coffee why do you care how noisy the machine is its coffee you drink it to wake up a little noise should not make a difference. Lastly> its a drip coffee maker; use drip size grounds. If you use too fine a grind it will clog the filter. That is not specific to this maker; it's for any drip maker; if you stick grounds made for a pressure/cappuccino machine it will overflow the filter basket. Complaining about it overflowing after sticking powder in the filter means you don't know what you are doing (get a burr grinder or grind it on the correct setting at the store; don't buy it ground already; it is not the correct size...or you do know what you are doing; in which case see a therapist, Amazon doesn't employ them. If you got a used one; that sucks. Ive gotten used things before and depending on what it is I may throw it out instead of perpetuating the cycle...see, thats what I mean by therapy. You think someone else wants used stuff? Not any more than you. I am not a licensed therapist but if you possess the comprehension to make it this far take this nugget and have a good day.

Great For the Price
I went from a high dollar Cuisinart coffee pot, which I had for about a year when the power light stop working. Everything else worked fine, but it was annoying so I decided to buy the Black & Decker. To be honest, I liked how small it was and compact on the countertop It easily fit underneath the cupboards, even with the top hatch open I could still open and close the cupboard doors above it. Unfortunately, it was a short relationship and all my fault. I woke up early last Friday to make some coffee, was half asleep and not paying attention and I didn’t put the pot back in correctly. I came out of my shower to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and it was all over-the-counter. That sucks. What made it worse was when I cleaned the mess up and went to make another pot, the electronics were all shorted out. I hoped after letting it sit for a couple days and plugging it back in, it would work again, but Nada. It was dead and it was my fault. It’s also happened the day before my birthday so I told my girlfriend about this whole ordeal and she went out and got me another high dollar Cuisinart coffee maker. I didn’t know how to tell her that I’d rather have this cheap Black & Decker so instead, I’ll just leave a good review.

Measurement is off from real life (1 cup = 5 ounces, not 8), and time buttons are too easy to push
Rating this as a 3 as "okay". I plan on keeping this but here are the things you need to know that I learned within 2 days of having it: I bought this coffee maker to replace a single Keurig maker that I have had for over a decade. I began drinking coffee made from fresh ground coffee from a local roaster recently, so using K-cups is out of the question. Also using the K-cup insert for more than one cup is a pain to clear and clean. The Keurig consistently poured 9 ounces at the large setting or 8 ounces for the middle setting, but I always used 1 heaping scoop of beans to one 9 ounces water (and 1/2 ounce of creamer). I then used a separate pour-over drip system to pour the hot water from the Keurig into my cup, which takes 3 or so minutes each cup. My new job is in-office so I needed to brew one "cup" to wake up, and two "cups" to take in a coffee thermos. I have to run the drip system 3 times in order to leave the house. This is why the Black and Decker was necessary. Two coffee systems to make coffee was a pain and even worse for the days I needed to drive into the office. First con: As a test I poured two cups (16 ounces) and one cup (8 ounces) into the Karaf to prepare for my use for Monday morning thinking the lack of an ounce would just make my cup a bit peppier. I was annoyed that the measurement on the Keraf (and water reservoir) showed the waterline as being more than "4" -- the water line was just over the top of the painted number 4 which was above the painted line. So in what universe does 24 ounces of water equate to more than 4 units?? It's not equidistant between the 4 and 6 so it doesn't correspond to 5 units. It corresponds to maybe 4.5. So is each unit equal to 5 ounce pours? Well surprisingly that is what Google tells me. Coffee makers use 1 "cup" = 5 ounces, not 8 ounces to leave room for cream. What?? 3 ounces of cream. Gross. So I am measuring 4.8 units for 24 ounces of water according to the Keraf, but logically this should be closer to the midpoint of the 4 and 6 line (ie very close to where "5" would be), but it isn't. If the Keraf or water reservoir stated "4 = 20oz" this at least would make sense. Minus one star for incorrect real-life measurements and propagating this dumb measurement into the 21st century. Second con: The benefit of the machine is that you can prepare your water amount with the ground coffee the night before, and set an alarm for it to brew (ie 5:55am) so that when you get up (ie at 6am) the coffee is already brewed. This feature is great. The first thing you need to do is set the actual time by pushing the hour or minute buttons. The con is that you can push these buttons at any point. Ie you don't need to select any other button in order to set the actual time. If you are right handed, the "hour" button is very close to the re-entry of the keraf and any accidental bump to the hour button will move the clock forward. The "Program" button is strictly for the programming of the alarm, not the clock. The Program button should be used as a dual clock setting and "brew alarm" setting. What benefit is it if the machine brews an hour off than the intended time? Minus one star for not designing the button programming to protect the auto-brew setting system time. Lastly, this isn't really a specific con, as I have seen this with other coffee brewers...paper filters get easily moved in the brew process resulting in coffee grounds in the keraf. I tested it today with a reusable filter, and no grounds made it into my keraf. I recommend using a reusable filter to ensure no grounds in the coffee (also it's better for the environment). TLDR: make sure the time on the clock is correct before you go to bed as you might accidentally bump the time an hour forward. Measure your water from a measuring cup unless your brews are based on a 5 ounce cup measurement.
