How can I get rid of the smell? I've run it through the washing machine, but the smell is still strong enough to make me feel nauseated.

I left mine to air out in my back room for a few days. It no longer smells.

Can you wash this? If so what is the recommended means of doing so

I have not had to wash it yet. If I do have to wash it, I will spot clean with soapy water. If that does not work, I will soak in soapy water and hand wash it. Most likely not soak for more than 10 minutes. Will use cold water and dishwashing liquid.
