In Depth Review of Sennheiser EW-D (Love it!)
I cannot say enough good things about the Sennheiser EW-D. I purchased this microphone about 2-3 months ago and have had the opportunity to use it several times in multiple types of scenarios. While lengthy my goal in this review is to answer any questions that I could not easily find.Summary: I have thoroughly enjoyed this microphone. It is very easy to setup and use, great sound, great battery life, great feel. For the price this microphone is phenomenal and has yet to disappoint!Ease of UseThis microphone is as easy to setup as advertised. I do recommend reading the instructions prior to use. From box to sound it takes less than five minutes. Simply power on the receiver, perform a scan if necessary, power on handset, push sync and you have live sound. I have never owned any wireless equipment prior to this and have zero prior experience. I am very impressed with the ease of setup. The app works as intended. I use it to sync and adjust levels as needed rather than using the receiver, but both are very straight forward. The receiver is simple and easy to learn. You do not need to be a tech wizard to get it down quickly.Handheld (Sound and Feel)Coming from a SM58 this microphone feels great. The size and weight is very comfortable and balanced. I always felt like the SM58 felt small and a little awkward. The 835 capsule is similar to the 58 and will cover the bases. I do plan to upgrade my capsule to the 945 eventually but I am in no rush as the 835 exceeded my expectations. If you don't know you can easily swap capsules without buying an entirely new handheld. Adjusting audio levels is quick and easy on both the receiver and the app.RangeSo far I have not come into a scenario where I have ran out of range. Every chance that I have I test the limits of this microphone and it's range and I have yet to have a single dropout. I sing in band and we gig bi-weekly. I have used this inside and outside and taken the microphone 100+ feet from the receiver and have not lost signal or experienced a dropout.Signal (Interference)I am very impressed with the frequency availability of the receiver. I have played in homes next to routers, in bars, restaurants, and have not experienced any interference. Our guitarist uses a wireless system for his setup and we have never interfered with one another. The RF meter is a great visualization of any potential interference. If you do need to change the frequency it's easily done in seconds with 90+ options.BatteryOur gigs run 4-5 hours total and this microphone has lasted the entirety of every gig with power to spare. I've never had to change batteries mid performance. The advertised life I believe is 8 hours and it is accurate. I use AA batteries, not the researchable options from Sennheiser. This is a great wireless microphone from Sennheiser that will get the job done at a price that is very reasonable.

Sennheiser sound quality.
Some people like "warm", "rich" sounds, I tend to prefer "accuracy" to any other perceived tonal qualities. To wit, I love the way Sennheisers sound. They're always the most "accurate" to source, to my ear.I didn't use this with any multi-mic setup or anything extravagant or concert-related. Instead I got this to use in a studio I'm setting up to produce video content (such as product reviews). Some might say, why would you need a wireless microphone in a studio? Because I have enough cords in my life. There are USB cords and networking cables and charge cords and literally, ANYTHING I can get that's cordless? I get. With the possible exception of headphones, I really don't want that much wireless power right on my brain. The only disappointment that I had with these, was the lack of rechargeable batteries for the mic. I really thought it came with rechargeable batteries, but clearly I didn't read closely enough. Sennheiser, this is a $700 mic set. You're tellin me you couldn't find an extra dollar or 2 in the production cost of this for a rechargeable battery?Of course, they SELL the rechargeable batteries for them. So it becomes a micro-transaction of sorts. Not a fan of that, really. If my mic setup is a $150 setup, I don't mind putting batteries in it. As soon as a microphone hits the $500 level, I expect it to be rechargeable from the factory. With a nice long-lasting user-replaceable LiOn pack. Just my pet peeve. I hate feeding things batteries. The sound is great (and accurate to me), and it works flawlessly in my usage. Just wish it came standard with rechargeables. It's a minor gripe and I still recommend it. But get the rechargeables for the mic too, you'll appreciate them.
