Constant Power Cycles and Windows 10 Limited to 24 hz at All Resolutions or To One Display
I tried Acer, Apple, and Planar displays with cabling I verified could run 1440p at 144hz when used without this switch. I spent a couple days power cycling this and rebooting attached computers and monitors and was able regularly get Windows 7, macOS Sierra and High Sierra to run 1440p displays at 60hz, but it would often take a power cycle or two for that to happen. The exact same hardware rebooted into Windows 10 would show only 24hz as an option on about half my reboots, and the full range of the monitor on the other half of reboots. But, under Windows 10, selecting any rate other than 24 hz with any attached monitor resulted in no signal leaving the switch at all, and it would quite often freeze USB as well. So, Windows 7 and macOS are usable but you'll spend more time power cycling and rebooting than you would ever have spent just plugging in the cables whenever you want to switch. With Windows 10, this is a useless brick—and how the heck they managed to make a KVM give a darn about the computers' operating system version is mind-boggling, it should only care about shunting data on the wires. To clarify a couple points: first, power cycling this unit regularly is required even when its working under Windows 7 and the only way to do so is to unplug its power cable and so rack-mounting this could be a serious pain; second, 24 hz is too slow for the human eye as, for example, dragging a large window across a screen can cause the window to appear to bend as the bottom is moving after the top and a mouse cursor will appear to move in jumps and skips.[Update] I was able to get a single display to run at 60 Hz under Windows 10. Two or more seems to be what breaks under Windows 10 (or rather triggers the 24 Hz limit). However, I then found another problem with this switch’s DisplayPort handling: after Windows 7, 10, or macOS puts a display to sleep, there’s a 50/50 chance that 1-3 power cycles of the switch will be required for it to reconnect the display when the OS tries to wake it. Again, the only way to power cycle is to pull the plug from the switches rear. So, doubly irritating.

like a mouse
I've never been a fan of KVMs with HID emulation, but this one ACTUALLY WORKS. Each keyboard/mouse that's connected shows up as a separate USB device on a "virtual hub", complete with its original VID/PID. It even works for my Apple USB keyboard, even though that keyboard has an embedded hub. You can even plug another HID device, like a mouse, into the keyboard, and that works too! You can't plug in a non-HID device like a flash drive, though. And yes -- it fully supports 2560x1440 ("2K") at 60 Hz. In fact, I've run it up to 80 Hz -- the limiting factor is my display, not the KVM.UPDATE: Use short, high-quality DisplayPort cables! Avoid cheap cables, or cables over 1 meter (3 ft) if you can help it, especially on the run from the switch to the display. Using longer cables may result in the display flickering and dropping out occasionally.

One minor flaw but otherwise great
Only one problem - USB port on it requires infrequent reset.I use this switch with all 4 ports occupied. Every a few days, after a switching I find my mouse and keyboard connected to this KVM's USB port stopped working. Usually if I switch to other port and back will fix it. But every a few time, it stopped working totally that I will have to power reset the KVM to bring them back.Otherwise it is great. 4K without issue, USB 3.0 speed without issue.

NEVER BUY THIS!
You buy it, hoping to solve your 30 hz video card problem with KVM switches.IT ONLY HAS DISPLAY PORTS, no HDMI.You try to buy Star Tech's own adapters. You're limited to three, and presumably need more for four systems and monitor. The adapters don't work. You try to take them out. They're locked into the display ports. You pull a little too hard. The console display port rips off the motherboard and rattles around the box.CONGRATULATIONS. You've spent almost six hundred dollars on the box, the proprietary cables, and cable adapters for your system, and you get NOTHING. No video, to keyboard input, NOTHING.

Video Quality Degradation
I cannot get the video to work properly. I've tested the cables and the cables work perfectly by themselves. However, put the KVM in the middle and the video quality is dramatically reduced. The available resolutions are much lower, and what is available is very blurry. Tried with both MacBook pro and a Windows 10 PC. Both exhibit the same problem. I've spent hours trying different cables and I am now giving up and returning the KVM.

Works as it should, with some minor issues on pre-2010 hardware

PRICE GOUGING AT IT'S BEST
For not even being able to support 4k @ 60hz....this is THREE TIMES the price it needs to be! AN ABSOLUTE JOKE.

Good quality but pricey
Overpriced for function but it does as advertised. Would be a value at half this price considering all it does is change from one device to another

Avoid! Over promised and under delivered, and extortionate in price
This is a very expensive piece of garbage. Firstly, it didn't contain cables, which is a kick in the teeth given the price.Secondly, Windows 10 has a really hard time outputting video to this kvm - Startech must do better so it works out the box without requiring a user to go fumbling around with drivers and advanced settings in Device Manager and BIOS. I gave up trying to get it to work on my third Windows 10 box. My second Windows 10 computer would only work sometimes through DisplayPort, sometimes it would work (this took a whole day trying to get up and running) then I'd switch to a different machine, switch back, and it wouldn't get a signal forcing a reboot of the KVM and a hard reset of my Windows machine. Why they don't keep all machines connected to the host while inactive is stupid. Even if you get this up and running without the bug in the machine that loses connection, expect your windows to be resized when you switch back.Thirdly, their different KVM models and their features arr a complete mess. Their older models support standard MST with displayport, but not their newer USB3 models. Their HDMI version supports fewer screen resolutions than VGA.In conclusion, AVOID THIS KVM. You don't receive anything better than a cheap £40 alternative, but at least the cheap ones are reliable. I've sent this back for a refund.
