does this stick on a dishwasher that is stainless steel?

I am not sure, my dishwasher is black. I wouldn't see why it wouldn't stick to a stainless.

Does the slider "lock" into place per say or would it easily get moved around accidentally?

It’s slides easy enough. No lock in place mechanism. But it’s easily the best thing I’ve bought and has settled many arguments within the family. It’s in a high traffic area and no one has accidentally slid it.

Yes, it will work vertical or horizontal. I LOVE this sign. My husband is always asking, “Are the dishes in dishwasher clean or dirty”? Lol

Would the switch stay in place if I were to mount it vertically? I need to put mine on a doorframe in my office.

Mine does but I don't know about it staying in place if you slide it a lot.
