Design Engineering 050113 Under Carpet Lite 70" x 72" Sound Absorption and Insulation (35 sq. ft.)

Product is light and OK for car roof sound deadening but does not seem sufficient for car floor pans sound proofing. Boom Mat sticky vibration damping pads were applied to both floor and roof. About 40% of the roof area and 80% of the floor area were covered with the vibration damping pads. Then, for the floor treatment, closed cell foam was applied on top of damping pads. Finally, as a third treatment, Boom mat Gray Under Carpet Lite was applied. From experience with the same type of treatment, mass loaded vinyl gave better results in sound deadening.

I hate to leave a negative review because I like DEI's other stuff but they did lead me to believe this had some sound barrier qualities but it doesn't in my simple testing. I have used most of the better name sound and heat control products (all USA made) in various builds and needed some heat protection over an engine hatch, plus was hoping for some sound blocking but all this stuff might be good for is mild heat issues, low level sound absorption and decoupling layers but I can detect ZERO sound barrier characteristics. I'd try to get my money back but I already cut it. Oh well, money in the trash. I'm ordering some Second Skin Liner Pro instead as the heat is low level. You can't skimp out on sound control materials!!

I put this stuff down over the top of some Noico 80mil sound deadening material before I installed mynew carpet on top of it and it is amazing. It has made my flooring in my car soft, plush and warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. It also was a nice addition to my sound deadening material and was the perfect finishing touch before I installed my new carpet.
