I don't like to use charcoal lighter, but I'm cool with whatever else makes my life easier. I typically use a chimney, newspaper, and Weber cubes, but the cubes are a mess (they're brittle and leave little flammable shavings everywhere). I saw these on Amazon, and thought I'd give them a go. I'm glad I did!These are the right size, easy to start, and make much less of a mess than the Weber cubes. Depending on how well I crumple the paper up and how many coals I need to light (and how hot they need to be), I'll use 3 or so of these. The burn time varies (lasts a bit longer if covered in coals), and they can go out if too well covered. In general they last for 10 minutes (less if not covered and well fed with oxygen), which is ideal for my purposes. After that time, I move the coals to the kettle from the chimney (or let the coals heat up a bit more for a hotter burn).As some of the other reviewers noted, these take a little effort to light, which to me is a positive, as when I want to start my grill I'm using a lighter and anything else is an accident, but this may not be fore backpackers or preppers using flint and magnesium.

These things ignite easier hotter and longer than newspaper in the 7th later of the abyss. If you need to light a fire at camp, bbq, or your shined new solo stove, this is what you are looking for. The packets light easy enough wet or dry, and last long enough to light most tinder/kindling or start bbq briquettes. Good quantity for cost too. Will not disappoint.

I got these as a gift for all of my family members for in their vehicles along with a complete survival package I had made up. Now before I handed them out in the package I did test them in my backyard.These are not to warm up your hands or anything else in my opinion, they are to start a fire with little to no effort. All you do is place package on ground and light packaging or tear open and have sparks ignite white stuff inside, so easy anyone can do it.

These are fantastic fantastic fire starters. They are easy to ignite with a small flame. The flame they produce is large, hot, and lasts for several minutes. These work every bit as well as shown in the You Tube video on the manufacturer's website. For both campfires and charcoal ignition, they work great!
