Sierra International, 18-5896, Temperature Sender

Finding the right size is the trick. It took me three orders to figure out the correct size. There is a Sierra 1-800 phone number that Amazon has to assist. The problem is that Sierra does not have a look up table to help you with your specific motor. What I learned through trial and error is that you need to order a temperature sender that is 1/4" smaller than your thread size. My 2015 150 HP Evinrude Etec had a 3/8" tap which meant I needed to order a 1/8" temperature sender.

Either on this or the z bracket but both are made by Sierra so idk which is right and which is wrong, sierras website lists both as 1/8” npt threads. Completely unacceptable and a waste of my time. If I wanted this to be a hassle I could have manufactured the z bracket myself out of some flat stock. So simple and overpriced of a thing to screw up. Now I could thread the these things properly but that’s money for 1/8” taps and dies I don’t have.

I added this sensor to my 1997 Mercury outboard along with a digital sensor and it works great!

I bought a 02 Four Winns that had a temp gauge that didn’t work. The gauge tested ok but the temp sender was missing. So, after much research I determined this was the one I needed. I installed it and it was a perfect fit. It came fast at a reasonable price. All my gauges are working now and I am quite happy with my new, old boat.
