Bought this drive to load some older software on a new PC that was replacing one that broke after many, many years. The new PC does not have an optical drive.The drive would not work out-of-the-box. I had to unplug it and plug it in multiple times before it would open the drive. CD had to be inserted/reinserted several times before it would read. These are "pressed" CDs that have been well taken care of in case/sleeve so the CDs are fine (and could be read easily in a friend's CD-ROM drive which is what I ended up using).Once CD did read, the drive would randomly "reset" and cause the installer to crash. The only way was to install a program to try (sometimes 7+ times) to create CD images and use Window's native CD image mounting capabilities. As stated earlier, I ended up using a friend's USB CD-ROM drive to install the software.Item was "returned" for credit.

I only purchased this so that I could save video files from old DVD-RAM discs that I recorded many years ago but even though the description said it was compatible this reader will not read the DVD-RAM 4.7GB discs I have. Otherwise it seems like a decent reader for the money but I'm disappointed that it won't read my DVD-RAM 4.7GB discs.

Nice small size and does what I need.
