Exclusive Art by Matt Ferguson Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell’s outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Once unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them. Bonus Content: • Feature Commentary with Director John Carpenter and Kurt Russell • John Carpenter’s The Thing: Terror Takes Shape • Outtakes • Theatrical Trailer Review: Truly amazing - I was reluctant to buy this classic horror I have seen many times since my childhood but finally gave up the greed (for 18£) to buy this 4K restored edition. The first third of the movie is a little grainy and not so sharp but you can notice a picture quality improvement, all the rest of the movie is just stunning, colours, lights, contrasts true 4K at its best without grains ,NO CGI in this movie with such a clarity and crispy picture that gave me the creep... Advice for New generation who are bored easily with old movies : no judgement you live in an overcrowded World constantly linked with people by the technology and noise. Now if you want to know really how does if feel ( the real world) go for a trip in the nature far away from civilization in a safe place where you can pass some silent and peaceful Hollidays. Linked with the nature with a minimum technology or people around you I promess you gonna feel uncomfortable very fast, the time will extend, the loneliness ( for a while ) gonna make you feel unsecure at first. Then you will be able really after 1/2 weeks to appreciate all this kind of movies. Review: Blown away! - I've only ever seen this movie on VHS and later on DVD. This 4K version is by far the best conversion of an old movie I've ever seen. Picture quality is supreme. One of the actors is sporting a nose ring, something not noticed before. The DTSX sound is as good as anything produced in a modern movie. This is a great monster movie improved with modern technology. Stunning with a big thumbs up.

Superb
It's hard to imagine how poorly received this film was at the time of its original release because it has certainly stood the test of time. This 4k set has a decent amount of extras. The soundtrack is good. The poster and booklet are nice. The blu ray...is not the best version you can get...and is probably the weakest part of the box set. Overall the package is pretty good. The 4k though is exceptional. This is one of those releases where you can see that the effort has really been made to make the film look good. Noticeable upticks in detail, clarity and texture. Improved colour throughout. I did wonder whether the practical special effects would be less convincing in 4k. They actually look better than they ever have and some of them are exceptionally unpleasant in the best possible way. Some 4k releases end up being very much "for the fans" and have little to recommend them to new viewers. This is not one of those films and you could probably use this disc to show off what a good 4k conversion can be. It's not the best I've seen but it is up there with the best. Definitely recommended.

The Thing (1982) - A Masterpiece Reborn in 4K
John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a true sci-fi/horror classic that has stood the test of time. The 4K Ultra HD release breathes new life into this film. I recommend it.

John Carpenters Masterpiece of Suspense and Horror
John Carpenters Masterpiece of Suspense and Horror. The best horror/sci-fi film ever made with the best Special Effects ever seen on film. If you haven't seen this film you need to see it to believe it I remember watching it with a group of friends in 1982 on VHS & when it finished we were in stunned silence then wanted to rewind it & watch it again.

CLASSIC HORROR TALE - DISAPPOINTING 4K UPGRADE
This 1982 Horror-movie directed by the legendary John Carpenter is considered +a classic to this day., starring Kurt Russell as Macready It tells of an 'alien' ship that had become stranded in the ice fields of Antarctica some 100,000 years ago and awaited rescue. A Norwegian research team stationed there had dug-up a frozen being in a block of ice, the alien being when defrosted was alive and apparently killed all but one at their depot, the alien took the form of a sled-dog and was chased by the one survivor in a helicopter. the dog reached the U.S base and was taken in the Norwegian who had been desperate to kill the dog at all costs was shot by the station commander in self-defence....the dog would come to be put in the dog compound with the other sled-dogs. Thingd took a turn for the worse as first the dogs then many of the team become infected by the being. Realizing the danger the alien could be if it reached beyond the ice-fields Macready and surviving team members set out to kill it, but, has anyone truly escaped contamination ? A tense affair that will hold your attention from start to finish. Sadly as others have pointed out the 4k upgrade falls well short of expectation, watch the movie, certainly but buy the Blu-ray rather than the 4k.

The Thing 4K
There have been hundreds of reviews of the movie itself, and I’m not going to add to those already written. Instead, I’m going to review the disc. The Disc - One of the advantages of these slightly older movies is that they were filmed on real tape, and it’s clear that this was used in the transfer. You can tell as some of the grain has been kept, which I think captures the essence of the movie well. Naturally, the picture has received an upgrade and on my OLED TV, it looks great with depth, and dark scenes look great against the bright reds and whites on offer. Sound - Just perfect played through my Atmos Soundbar, with fantastic upgrades and placements of sound. You can almost feel the echos of coldness and the eerie atmosphere of that desolate, forbidding ice station. Buy it if you have 4K. You’ll not regret it.

Great film and looks amazing in 4k
Was a Xmas present from my daughter and we watched it Christmas Eve - I love this as it's one of my favourite films. My 19 year old thought it was boring lol

It's a real shame that this movies had terrible reviews when it first came out in the 80s, as I think people were grossed out and were acrimonious with the tone/mood of the film. But lest we forget, this is a horror film. In my opinion I think it's well done and the story is a lot smarter than what it appears. Disclaimer: I actually despise body horror, bloody and gore fests as they usually seem exploiting, try-hard-edgy, and exploiting. But the way Mr. Carpenter directs these horror scenes is so masterful that the nightmarish violence seem very appropriate and morbidly creative. Kurt Russell's character is not a super hero and is just an everyday blue color guy is very relatable and down to earth and the extras seem pretty real with their own quirks and flaws, which makes the whole situation all the more horrifying and quite disturbing. I would recommend all mature audience members to atheist watch it once as it is nearly on the same Sci-Fi/Horror spectrum as Riddley Scott's Alien. It's a master work that still stands on its own to this very day.

The best version of the film. This remaster is the clearest and all the dark scenes are vastly improved.
