Plug and play
I'm a complete digital and smartphone ignoramus but I've bought these multiple times and found that you simply insert the SIM in your phone or mini-router and it works. Never had to try to communicate with EE human or bot to solve a problem. Some kind of magic at work. Usage can be monitored at add-on[.]ee[.]co[.]UK, though some browsers can cause problems. At the time of writing, Firefox works OK.

If you need a back up
I used this card whilst changing domestic wifi provider. Worked well. Use it now in my phone. It is tempting to buy one of these again this year as it covers all your data needs when out and about and provides an alternative should your domestic wifi provider have problems. Only works in EU with roaming charges. But for domestic use, moving house or an alternative to a contract phone this is a good option.

Buyer Beware!
Bought this in February for use with my mobile router in the caravan whilst away. Worked perfectly - with a good signal at various locations around the country - indeed at one spot I was getting 85 Mbps download - much faster than I get at home! Used it on and off until the end of September when it still had 20Gb of data left but when I came to use it again a month later - nothing. No connection to the internet whatsoever even though we had connections on both our phones (also with EE). Swapped sims from phones to the router and it worked correctly so there was no doubt that the original sim was faulty. I also tried another identical data sim which I had in reserve for when the original ran out and that was OK as well. Telephoned EE technical support who basically weren't interested since they couldn't find the sim on my account (well, they wouldn't - would they - since it is essentially a PAYG sim). I did question whether or not it had been deactivated since it hadn't been used for a month (still my suspicion), but that was of no interest to the EE 'technician'. So - I lost 20Gb worth of data which I had paid for and there was nothing I could do but bin it and start again. Just be aware that you may not be getting what you pay for!

Reliable - wifi
This is the second time I have purchased this item. It works straight out of the box. No complicated set up. Lasted the full 12 months last time, so happy with the functionality. Mostly used for working remotely - kept in regular use, so haven't experienced being cut off.

Europe - this card NO LONGER works in the EU - confirmed 15-9-23
BUYER BEWARE - up unitl now, my review of this 120GB SIM card that lasts a year was Amazon's top ranking review, with 138 votes. However, I have just arrived in France and, after a wasted evening then a call to EE, found that it NO LONGER works in the EU without paying an addional roaming charge. EE tell me that they changed their policy around April of this year, and another reviewer here (Pedro) found the same problem. My apologies to review readers who may have been misled by EE having pulled the rug from under their product and my review, previously titled "Europe - Confirmed that it works in the EU (July 2022)". I have left my previous review as it stood, below, for the record. And thank you yet again ... Brexit!Bottom line - EE assure me (18-6-22) - and I called twice to double check - that THIS DOES WORK for the full data allowance IN THE EU without any additional roaming charges, fair usage constraints and withouts limits on tethering. I will not be activiting my SIM until end of June, and will change this review then if proven experience in Sweden and Netherlands should require otherwise. So, provisionally 5 stars, but 1 knocked off for not making it explicit on the package and in the marketing that it's good for UK and EU, indeed, the small print once you open the package says, "Data allowance in packs or add-ons for ue in the UK." Confusing!Ps. 22-7-22. I called the current seller, Eternal Communications Ltd, to ask how long SIM remains valid before activation so that I can hold one in reserve for future use. I'd seen conflicting info on the web. They said EE's norm is 6 moths, but it can be extended by another 3 if you phone them up, but it's a phaff. The guy who answered the phone was brilliant. Said they too had been confused by the post Brexit situation. They took the train over to France to test that it still worked there without addition charges. They'd seen my review and what I found corroborated their findings. Interestingly, using this in N Scotland last week I was getting over 50 MB. In Glasgow I get about 10. It varies with network congestion. People who complain that the SIM is not giving a high speed are probably just using it in congested areas or at busy times. I found in the Isle of Lewis that, generally, I got better speed and coverage than with my phone Vodafone, so the phone/dongle combo worked great.Here's the detail to spare others who might have had need to check out what I've checked.My need is for a back up SIM to use in a Hauwei pocket MiFi if local internet is poor or when working in the EU. In the past I've used 30 day PAYG options, but they're a phaff to set up. This looks ideal as it lasts for the duration of the data or a year. But Brexit has upset many an apple cart. What about this. I read lots of reviews and submitted Amazon questions but got only conflicting info, so I've been on the phone to EE and did so twice, because sometimes with some companies you get an agent who is misinformed. I got consistent info both times, from which I've established the following as of June 2022, and to be clear, this is for the 120GB EE "Connected Data SIM" currently on Amazon at £50.1. EE assures me the data works for UK and EU, but if taking it abroad you MUST first activate it on a device within the UK. Your 12 months counts from that date, not the date of purchase. Whereas EE have post-Brexit roaming charges on their pay-monthly plans, this does not apply to PAYG, and this SIM is classed as PAYG. (I know that sounds obvious, but when the term PAYG does not appear on the packaging you have to double check). To activate, they say you just slip it into your device and turn on, but I've not done that yet as I'm not yet needing it. They say this only works in EU and UK, not in other parts of the world.2. There is no limit on how much of the data you can use abroad, and no limit on tethering or which device you put the SIM into, so I can activate in my phone if I want and then move to the MiFi or a dongle. To monitor how much data you have left it appears that you attach the number to the EE app, but I didn't ask EE explicitly about that, it's just how other PAYG SIMs work, and their app is good.3. You get the option to add top-up "packs" once your data runs out, but I see folks saying that as these last only 30 days, most of them just buy a new 120GB SIM. But the top-up option could be handy if you're outwith the UK at the time, and on the current 120GB packs, they're promising double data on top ups, so £5 for 10GB, scaled up to £40 for 240GB. Also, if you do want to top up you can pay for minutes and texts; indeed, I saw one review that said 100 texts come free with it, they show in the app, but I've not verified that.4. I see an issue rasied in some reviews of some folks finding it stopped working after 180 days because they had not incurred a "chargeable" event, and they had to contact EE to restart it, one even got told he had to put money on the account. You should not have to add any money to any account to use this. You've paid already. The small print, only visible once you've bought and opened the SIM pack says: "You must use data or top-up every 180 days or you will be diconnected and you'll lose any credit on your accounts." EE assure me that simply connecting and using data occassionally is sufficient, so I think the folks who've been caught out had maybe let the SIM lie unsued for more than 180 days.5. I saw somebody compain that you can't swap the SIM from one device to another because that breaks it. I think what they may have misunderstood, is that the SIM supplied is a 3-in-1, a Nano encased in a Micro encased in a Mini plastic casing. These pop out of each other, but that doesn't break the SIM. You just need to press them back together again. The electronics are all in the middle. The outer parts are just plastic for holding in place. When I use SIMs in my MiFi I build them up to Mini, then break back down to Nano for the phone.6. Why use EE? They have a good reputation for indoors 4G coverage (this is a 4G SIM) and for speed. In my case, I use Vodafone on my phone, so I want a backup that gives an alternative, and when I go back to the Isle of Lewis there's parts where EE has better coverage as it has the emergency services contract (unless that's changed recently). When roaming in France I find the provider varies between (usually) SFR, Orange and Bouygnes (maybe Free Mobile too - one of the French 4). Usually it locks onto the best, but if that gets dodgy, I force it onto another, sometimes with better results, so auto is not always optimal.7. What alternatives to EE? Just from my reasearch mid-2022, and I do this because my wife and I when we travel do a lot of work Zooms that require ace data connection, the only commensurate long-lasting option that I could find from the 4 UK networks is the Three Three Mobile Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband 24 GB Data SIM https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M3VJ2B2?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_19M1ANJN8QWFC3G0X3JD24 which lets you use half the data when roaming in up to 70 countries, even Indonesia, USA, NZ etc, and lasts up to 24 months.I hope these comments will be helpful to any of you whose needs and questions might be similar to mine. I take the time because this is about *community*, and community is how we make a better world. I'm grateful to others who have shared their insights on other products in a similar spirit. And finally, if my experinece in early July proves that anything major of the above is invalid, I will edit this review with an alert and if need be, raise an issue with Amazon. But both EE agents that I spoke to seemed confident in the information they gave. I asked one to suggested to the Marketing Dept that they be explicit on the packaging, and safe us all a lot of time and better promote what looks as if it's the best such product on the market at the moment, unless you want to travel outwith the EU. Roaming rules changed and no longer works abroad...
This is the second SIM I have purchased, first one, no problem at all I was able to use in the UK and when working abroad, no problems at all, very reliable and able to support hosting online events with several laptops and phones connected, great signal in most places around the UK.I found out the hard way that the T&C's changed without previous notice and now this is a UK only SIM, where the previous year I was able to use my data in France, Spain, Germany and Luxembourg; This year I lost over 3 work days trying to resolve an issue which finally and thanks to the EE support team I manage to complete my work in Spain (3 days later than expected and leaving a poor image on my client), they transformed the sim from data only to a pay as you go so I have to pay £10 in order to use my own data abroad!!! having a reminder in my sim...When returning to the UK I found out that my data was expiring at the end of the month instead of the date it should for the 1 year validity.That was another call to the support team which were not able to transform it back to the data only but thankfully they credited the account with a further £10 so my validity was pushed to the end of the following month as it was intended...Beware of changes and this SIM no longer works abroad, UK only!!!!
