Solo Piano

Not practical
Glass's music has many repeats. The page turns in this edition are outrageous. It's like it was printed for children or those who can see at all well. Unless you plan to memorize entire pieces, it's just not helpful. I don't know what the alternatives are, but this is not professional.

Great for Harp fingering exercises, beginner-intermediate
First of all, this is a book of sheet-music for the Piano, by Philip Glass: I give it five stars because I like/love Glass's music, in general; and, in particular, I love these. Contents are: Metamorphosis (all, I-V), Mad Rush, and Wichita Vortex Sutra. The first five are in the soundtrack of the movie "The Hours" (which I also recommend). I bought this, however, for use on the Harp, which I play. As almost everyone who knows anything about Philip Glass, his musical style is basically "minimalist"; Glass himself calls it "music with repetitive structures", which makes this set of pieces great for finger exercise -- especially on the Harp, where certain fingering constraints exist. The level is mostly beginner-intermediate; they are best learned slowly (beginner), and with speed and practice become more advanced (intermediate). Also, in my opinion, the best recording of the five Metamorphosis on the Harp is by Lavinia Meijer (titled, "Glass: Metamorphosis, The Hours").

Keeping "Solo Piano," returning "The Piano Collection"
I saw no listing of contents of the two Philip Glass piano books I found here, saw each on the other's "customers also bought" list, and took a chance. I'm keeping only "Solo Piano."This book consists entirely of pieces written or, in one case, adapted for piano by Glass himself as far as I can tell: the five-part "Metamorphosis," "Mad Rush" (modified from an organ work, "Fourth Series Part 4"), and "Wichita Vortex Sutra," part of "Hydrogen Jukebox."I'm returning "The Piano Collection" because its contents are the same "Metamorphosis," two shorter works for piano, and piano arrangements by other men of some of Glass's ensemble works - not what I'm interested in playing. I list the full contents in my review of that collection. It would help if Amazon provided the same level of detail for music scores that they do for recorded music.

Very readable edition of Philip Glass's Metamorphosis I-IV.
I've always wanted to learn these pieces. This edition contained very easy to read musical notation of Glass's works.

Various player levels
I gave this to my son who is an excellent pianist, but I also enjoyed playing some of the easier pieces. The music is very soothing to action packed.

Exactly what I expected
Overall, this is a good book that is what I expected. Perhaps the layout of the music could be improved, but this music is easily memorized, so it is not an important enough detail to detract from a 5-star rating.

Good, relaxing music that's not difficult
I enjoy playing this music and find it relaxing. It isn't terribly difficult to play, so if you are looking for very challenging music look elsewhere. Some people complain that most of the music is the same with a few changes here and there with each piece, but they forget that its a series called "metamorphosis". Play the music, feel the changes as they come, appreciate those changes and understand that each piece is related to the others inherently because that's what the composer intended.

Muy buena edición. Me encantó
Me encantó.
