DC Comics Scalped Book Two

Can't believe DC doesn't give this series the love it deserves.

This is possibly one of the best graphic novels I have ever read. Jason Aaron creates a fascinating and gripping storyline with amazing character arcs- telling the story of the Oglala Lakota tribe, gangs, organised crime, poverty, politics, drug addiction, alcoholism and life on the Prairie Rose Reservation. Although fictitious, Aaron weaves much into this amazing story. Concurrently taking an unflinching look at racism, bigotry, Native Americans, their culture and what their culture and they have suffered at the hands of the American government and the consequences thereof. The story is married perfectly with the frankly brilliant pencil work of R.M. Guera who brings Aaron’s world to life with a technical style and an attention to detail that will blow you away.All in all, if you are a fan of the the graphic novel medium, this is a must have. I really can’t recommend it enough.

Nesse segundo deluxe, Jason Aaron amplia o foco da série para outros personagens como Carol (filha de Red Crow), Dino Poor Bear e o policial Bad Falls (talvez o único honesto em Prairie Rose). Mas talvez o grande destaque mesmo seja o trabalho que o escritor desenvolve com Red Crow. Precisa muita habilidade para se humanizar um vilão, na medida em que ele continua intimidador, mas ao mesmo tempo o leitor é capaz de entender o porquê de suas ações e seu modo de pensar. E claro que não podia faltar Dashiell Bad Horse, o herói (?) da série. Depois da morte ocorrida no primeiro volume, ele vai passando de forma bastante particular pelas 5 etapas de luto. Destaque também para a edição nº 12 (primeira história desse volume), que é contada de forma meio delirante e talvez através de sonhos Dash tenha começado a perceber qual sua verdadeira missão na reserva.Enfim, Scalped só vai melhorando com o decorrer das edições. A história é instigante, imprevisível e os personagens são muito bem construídos. Se você tiver dinheiro para comprar apenas um gibi hoje, não pense duas vezes... compre SCALPED!!

Good book. Deluxe edition is worthy upgrade to trade paperbacks, which tend to break easily. Slightly bigger format helps too.
