This is a very informed book on Metallica's entire song collection, the story behind each song. It spans from all their early stuff right up to Death Magnetic. A great read for any fan of these hard metal rock legends. It's also a brief history of how they started and what or who influenced them musically. A must have for hard core fans.

The author clearly has performed little to no research, instead opting to provide their own opinions and musings on the origins of Metallica's greatest hits. This could have still been an interesting approach, except that the result is not only boring and without substance but in many cases completely inaccurate. Had the author simply picked up any one of the many popular Metallica biographies, it would have become apparent that most of their "stories behind the songs" are completely wrong. Save yourself the time and read Metallica's wikipedia page for more info than this book can offer.

nice photos and nice cover - probably those are all the positive traits of this book. being a long-time fan of these guys I was hoping to get detailed and authentic information about the origin of the songs but the descriptions are all vague and hypothetic. not recommended.. :/

....thats ALL you get here. No explanations from James just the author who has ZERO insight into what the songs means. A rabid or neophyte fan has nothing to learn here.
