Not sure!
The Extech M0290 is a great moisture meter. It genuinely serves its purpose within the industry. My father has had his for well over 15 years. The orange rubber boarder is fading away it’s that aged however, when I took this unit out of its case and placed the battery in back, I turned it on and selected non intrusive mode and it instantly picked up moisture when the unit wasn’t touching any materials.

I’ve had mine for 5years and it’s been a fabulous investment. I haven’t seen many other meters that can measure up. I would buy it again if I had to. Five Stars!!

Completely Let Down by This Piece of Equipment
I'm completely let down by this piece of equipment. Purchased in May of 2014. About 2 months later the moisture sensor on the back came loose while measuring moisture at a job site. I decided to re-attach it rather than return since the connections were still attached and it appeared to be more of an issue with the glue or epoxy. Fast forward yesterday at a job site and the meter was simply dead - would not turn on. (Also tested with a brand new battery.) Called Extech and there is no reset so if it didn't turn on it was dead. Worst part is I found that there is only a 1 year warranty and that my $500 purchase is now basically a paperweight - after only 15 months. As a supervisor this equipment got very little use, I was the only user, and it lived in its original foam padded carrying case. (If this meter had been in a technicians kit and experienced the rigors of used on a daily basis, my opinion may be different.) During my call to support, Extech offered a flat fee repair cost of $175 with the disclaimer "if it can be repaired". The challenge is do you invest another $175 plus shipping both directions on an apparently faulty product, or invest into a different brand name. Having a hard time rationalizing that expense. (Wish this review could be different.)
