Decorative and Functional
I got this fan to replace an ugly plastic one, and it matches the antique-ish decor of my room beautifully. I use fans almost exclusively for white noise, and this one works well in that regard on the lowest setting with no oscillation. The fan runs smooth and strong, although I did have a problem at first with what sounded like a slight vibration - I solved it by sitting the fan on a mousepad for extra cushioning. The problem did not recur on a different surface, so it could have just been that my dresser was insufficiently flat.As a side note, Hunter customer service is excellent. The first fan I received had a dented base, apparently damaged in shipping, and they sent a second fan free of charge to replace it. I didn't even have to return the first one (which works fine in spite of its injury, but sits off-kilter and looks a bit strange. My mother enjoys it now nonetheless).

Attractive, but assembled poorly for the price
I have about ten Hunter ceiling fans in my home and have owned Hunter fans in my homes before. They all have worked beautifully and have been super attractive as well. This little desk-top fan is no exception, however the guard was put on and the mounting holes don't match up to the guard and it is askew making the Hunter logo badge in the center crooked as well. Further, the fan makes a small knocking noise on the low speed. Overall, even with these issues, I truly like the fan, it's a perfect color for the top of my roll-top in my office, works great on speeds 2 and 3 and is all-metal, not the cheap appearing plastic garbage sold at the big discount stores. This fan is quite attractive, but, for the price and from THIS company, I'd have expected to see much more attention placed upon quality control.

I waited 6- months before reviewing this fan to make sure it worked...
Others posted about issues with this fan, either the oscillating feature stops, or the switch stops working. I run it on full oscillating every day for about 12- hours per day. So far have had zero issues. I love it. It turns a complete 180... so my entire living room has a nice light breeze to it. Enough to gently move the air in a comfortable way. One thing I do though, and would recommend is to take it apart once a month and give it a good cleaning. Dust sticks to it like a magnet. It's easy to do, the front cage over the blades comes right off. I'm not an expert but I'd bet my bottom dollar that people with issues aren't getting the dust out of them... I use an old tooth brush to get it out of the motor compartment, again, very easy to do, takes maybe 10 minutes... Mine is quiet, and runs cool. It's been going strong for 6- months now. Great buy.

Worth the price
We are a household that is addicted to having a fan on at night for a good night's sleep. I hate to think of the number of fans we have been witness to 'planned obsolescence'. A year of service at best, and for roughly $39 each -it adds up. So spending $50 on a metal fan with a five year warranty seems like a sound investment. After a couple of months usage of twelve hours a day, this fan is still as sound as the first nights'use. I love the use of metal instead of plastic, and the nostalgic looks, reminds me of childhood memories at Grandma's. It is well made, pushes a lot of air, has a nice switch, enough weight to eliminate those quircky irritating rattles associated with lighter plastic fans; and provides just enough white noise for good night's rest. I deduct a star based solely on the fact that is in fact made in China.

The Hunter Fan is the best one I ever bought.
What I like about the Hunter fan is that it is quite. I like it when it osolates. Either way it cools me off. There is nothing I dislike about it as it is one of the best fans you could buy. Some very hot nights you have to keep it very close to you to be cool. The cooler nights not so hot you have to adjust it closer or farther away from you for your preference. The cooler night you can put it on low and the hotter nights in high. You can even get cold with the fan and have to cover yourself with a sheet and a blanket. I love the fan.

A lot of misconceptions about this
This fan has a lot of misconceptions in reviews I had read before purchasing. First one reviewer said you can not clean fan, read the owners manual the face of fan guard is easily removable. Second fan is noisy, my fan operates quietly with the only noise being the air being pushed. Third complaint was fan did not oscillate. It oscillates perfectly fine or push the knob down and it is stationary.I was pleasantly surprised how much air this fan moves. It probably moves just as much air as a large plastic box fan because it has a powerful motor. If your on the fence about purchasing over price don't be this is a all metal quality fan. Great for rooms sizing up to 10x20 in my opinion. On low or medium speed you can feel it across the room high speed will turn the pages of a magazine on a table 6 feet away.

UPDATE
OK, I read alot of the reviews so my expectations were managed. Even so, I have to say, it's disappointing. It looked, retro, sure, but it also looked, well, used!Though it supposedly arrives fully assembled I found the front grill detached and the instructions in the manual were not helpful. It's not as heavy as I though it would be, so if you want a substantial 'LOOK' you'll get that and that only.More when I assemble it!Well, I finally figured out how to remove the ring and after aligning the grills I tried to screw it back together. It's been an hour and I'm done.I think it's going back.UPDATE: September 2016Pretty much destroyed it when I tried to clean it and then found outy there are NO replacement parts available. Hunter has anandoned the product. DON'T BOTHER

Great fan - but Amazon sent it dirty....
The fan itself is great - exactly as pictured. It's quiet(er), attractive and matches our decor well. The only problem I had with it was that I purchased a used/refurbished one that was fulfilled by Amazon. I was surprised to find that it was absolutely filthy. There was a strange white dust all over it - almost like dry wall dust. The blades were covered with it as well as a thick layer of "fan scum" on the edges. Yuck. It wasn't a problem, just a hassle to clean. I had to take the whole thing apart. I was surprised that Amazon would send it out like that.
