Yes. I used it last year for a vent replacement and no problems.

What is the difference between white and dove bright white?

The Kelvin number indicates the whiteness with 5700 being the most brilliant and 2700 being a warm white. So the range in between indicates the brightness. Check the Kelvin # on the description.

Is there a recommended caulk gun to use with this?

No. Any calk gun for that size tube will work.
