High Quality and Convenient Solution
I bought this months ago, tested it, and then put it away. Just yesterday I put it into operation. I added a small media center to my wife's remodeled reading room, where the equipment sits in a lower cabinet and the HD TV sits on an upper protruded shelf. The wiring runs behind the wall through neat looking a/v boxes. After adding a Blu-Ray player to the mix, I discovered that I was short by two slots, because I had planned on using HDMI for all devices. But the TV I found only has one HDMI, so I had to use component for the cable box. This product was perfect. Using only a few feet of cable behind the wall between the upper and lower a.v boxes, the signal suffers no detectable degradation. Crisp video and clean audio. No hum or static. This product saved me from a tedious rework of my a/v connection boxes, and instead of being two slots short, I now have two extra! Not needing external power adapters is a very great plus factor.

Part of a Great Kitchen TV System
Part of a Great Kitchen TV System[See PSS at end for comments on negative reviews]When I switched from cable to FIOS, I lost access to most of the "standard" TV channels I use to get on cable. I neither had room for another FIOS converter box in the kitchen nor wanted to pay the recurring fee. So I found a solution that works for me - piggyback on my one FIOS converter box. After a huge amount of research, the solution I gravitated to was to use the Tripp Lite component video adapters to transport video and sound over CAT5, and really nice digital TV from Vizio attached to the underside of my kitchen cabinets with the Vantage Point "wall" mount (works fine under cabinet too). The TV in the kitchen is now slaved to the same channel selected on the one FIOS box in the family room. This was great, but we had to walk into another room to switch the channel. Then I found a bit of magic: the Next Generation Remote Control. This magically device has a receiver plugged into the wall near the FIOS box, and a transmitter that fits into a FIOS remote. How to get a second FIOS remote? Well, if you dig around you can just request one (for free) on the FIOS site - mine arrived in a few days. You put one real battery into the new FIOS remote, and then the transmitter (which has a rechargeable battery inside and is the same form factor as a battery). Now the magic - when you press a key on the new FIOS adapter, the battery senses the codes being sent, and transmits it to the receiver, which generates new IR signals to trigger the FIOS receiver.Amazingly, this all works like a charm! Both TVs show the same channel, but if you don't need two converters this solution is a real winner!PS: if you have a long cable run (hundreds of feet) don't get normal CAT5 cable - use "KVM" qualified cable. This cable has the special characteristic of uniform delay on all pairs (since its used with analog signals, just like this solution does). My run was about 100 feet and used CAT-5e I had run earlier, and it works great).PSS: I see negative reviews on the Tripp product. Well, I am a EE and know how to create and test CAT-5e cable with connectors I attach. If someone does this and reverses pairs, or misconnects wires, or somehow misses getting one wire punched down, then the picture is going to be crap. If you buy this product, then try it first with a short cat-5e LAN cable. That is, plug one Tripp into the set top box, then the cable to the other set top box, the second box to the TV you plan to use remotely. See if that works then any problems are due to the cable/connectors.All Products:"Next Generation Remote Control Extender""VIZIO M160MV 16-Inch LED""Vantage Point UL01-S Articulating Wall Mount""Tripp Lite B136-101 Component Video with Stereo Audio over Cat5 Extender Kit"

Finally a cat5 converter that works
I recently purchased the Tripp Lite Component Video Cat 5 Converter and I have to say, I am beyond impressed with its performance! It works flawlessly and has exceeded all of my expectations. I've had zero issues with video quality or connectivity, and the setup was a breeze. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable component video converter. Thanks, Tripp Lite!

Works great with AT&T U-Verse over about 30 ft of Cat 6 cable
I purchased this to avoid having to rent another cable box from AT&T. Since my current box was using HDMI and the component outputs were empty, I decided to pick up the RF remote for the AT&T box and this Tripp Lite B136-101 extender unit.I have a cat 6 cable that is about 3 ft long that runs from the sender (i.e. box) side of the unit to the wall. Then the wall plate has a cable that runs to the other wall plate near the TV. On the other side is another 3 ft cable that connects the receiver (i.e. TV side) to the wall plate. The total run is about 30 ft and is all UTP cat 6 cable (550mhz rating, 24 AWG Stranded). The video sent is a 720p signal. After a minor adjustment the brightness (which was already turned down on the tv) a little past the default, I have a great picture and good stereo sound.Depending on the power of your signal source (i.e. cable box) and the distance of your cable run, I can see where the brightness would decrease significantly. However, that wasn't the case for me and so the unit has been a great fit at a good price. I recommend for similar setups.

One Star
Worked great for 1 month then died. Pretty expensive for the seeming lack of quality

Holy CRAP! It's good!
Oh man - I was a little skeptical about this in the beginning. I purchased this because I have a cable box and TV in the master bedroom and a small HDTV in the master bathroom. The old cable box had a S-video out that I used to run to the mater bathroom TV. Recently I got the new X1 terminal cable boxes from Comca$t and they do not have s-video on the back - however they do have HDMI + component out. The total distance from running the CAT5e cable from the X1 terminal box, under the house though the crawl space, and to the master bathroom was roughly 60ft. My brother-in-law works for Comca$t and warned me that he saw one of these before, but had lines and a 'ghost' effect on the TV. To my surprise, after running the CAT5e and putting ends on the cable and connecting it up, the video quality is phenomenal! Zero lag when I have both TVs on, and the audio is great - no hissing. I'm super pleased with this product and purchase.- No additional power needed- Runs over CAT5e (only one thin cable needed!)- No audio hissing- No video lag- Small box that can hide behind the wall mount TVBest 70 bucks I've spent.

Great way to simplify cableing
This is my third set and they are a great choice for moving component 50 or more feet with 1 Cat 5 cable instead of three (or 5) component (with sound). We are broadcasting with students using component cable to a newtek tricaster and this really fits in our set up well.

Giving up on Tripp-Lite products
I purchased two kits and both are giving trouble... Cat5 cable not seating very well and image is intermittent. Not the quality I expected. After about two weeks one has completely stopped working. Very disappointing!!
