Canon XF300 High Definition Professional Camcorder

Finally Canon puts out the C100/300 Cinema cameras so the price can drop for the XF models. If you have $25,000 to invest in a camera, then go with the "C" class. Their stripped bodies will hit you at the starting block for $15k. Then add lenses, battery, and other peripherals and wham, your in deep.The XF300 still holds the same spec and prosumer usability at a reasonable cost. Everyone has their brand name they like to stick with. Mine, albeit Canon, is a user friendly model. Their are some minor issues with editing software, you probably want to go with Premier, or FCP 7. But, this camera will serve you well with the functionality it contains within.Many, Many Indie artist have this unit. Some have the XF305, $1k more than the 300, but has a few tweeks to it. Lens can be changed, different interface, etc.So read the rest of the reviews if you need to, then order this unit... Ya Baby!

We operate an independent production company and we added the XF300 to our camera inventory four years ago. The short version of this review is this- if you want a reliable workhorse video camera, this is your camera.Now, the longer version. Here are the drawbacks first:1. Don't expect to shoot perfect footage out of the box on auto. You will be disappointed.2. For the expense of this camera you will wonder why it doesn't shoot in 4K. Of course, 4K was not around when this was designed.3. You probably will lose some or all of the little rubber port covers from the back of the camera.4. The diopter adjustment on our viewfinder is not consistent, making the viewfinder useless. Sad, because the viewfinder is otherwise very nice.5. Low light can be a problem, but not always.None of these are showstoppers for this camera. In fact, I think it holds up well against some current 4K cams. Here are the things we like:1. Very reliable. We've shot this cam I truly horrible conditions. Everything from outdoors below freezing in the snow to 90 plus degrees F with 100 percent humidity. The camera has been completely reliable.2. Image quality- this camera blows away DSLR style cameras in image quality. It is easily comparable in image quality to the EOS C100 which we also have shot with extensively.3. Sound input- we've used the exact same mic (Rode NTG3) on both this can and the C100. The sound quality is better on the XF camera4. Customizability- you can dial in every aspect of a look in this camera. This can make the camera a bit intimidating, but it also makes this camera a real asset because it is so flexible. The customizability is really the secret to getting great images from this camera.5. Because it records to CF cards, it is a very economical camera to use for recording large amounts of images.6. The files edit really nicely in FCPx.7. For an HD camera, the resolution is astonishing. It holds up really well against today's ostensibly higher resolution cameras.This is not a perfect camera and it's not for everyone. And it's expensive. But, as with everything Canon, you seem to get much more than the specs sheet suggests. If you're looking for a beautiful HD image in a camera that just plain works every time, this should be an option to consider.

The xf300 video camera is truthfully one of the best video cameras out there, when it comes to recording live events such as weddings this camera is easy to use and amazing picture clarity with a L series lens this camera is a must have for any videographer out there. Unless u like to complicate your life with a dslr.

Coolest camera on Earth. So glad I bought it. This is a professional camera. You'll need to master Adobe Premiere Pro or something equally dense to use it.
