Total game changer for the WSM — no more water pan hassle, just better cooks
I’ve run my Weber Smokey Mountain through the fall and winter using the FireDial instead of the traditional water pan, and honestly, I’m never going back. You can read a hundred debates about whether the WSM “needs” a water pan, but in my experience, it absolutely doesn’t—not with the FireDial in place. No more wrapping the water pan in foil. No more adding water mid‑cook. And best of all, no more dealing with the dreaded post‑cook water‑pan cleanup. The FireDial is the opposite: if it needs cleaning, just flip it over and let the next cook burn off the residue. If anything remains, a quick scrape takes care of it. It saves time, reduces hassle, and keeps the smoker running smoothly so you can focus on the food. There is a slight learning curve with heat management at the start, but after two or three cooks, I had it dialed in. Temps come up a little quicker, and I’ve had zero issues with food drying out—even on long smokes. For any WSM owner tired of the water pan routine, the FireDial is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.

Designed and made in USA!!
This is a great product and an extremely reasonable price. All the other products which do something similar or twice the price of this thing and I don't see that they would be made any better. What this allows you to do is fill up the entire bottom of your Weber Kettle's Charcoal Grate with Charcoal, pour lit Charcoal from your Charcoal Chimneys (I use 2) on top wait a few minutes for all your Charcoal to light before putting the Fire 🔥 Dial over it. Then you have the entire surface of your Cooking Grate usable instead of one side or down the middle. My Weber kettle held a level 350° for more than 6 hours without fluctuating one degree using the fire dial amazing. Still had plenty of charcoal for next time when I shut the grill down. Slow & Sear allows you to cook on one side of your Grate Weber's Charcoal Baskets allow you to cook down the middle of your Cooking Grate but this allows you to cook anywhere on the Cooking Grate using the entire surface. A truly great product much cheaper than the two I mentioned.

Temp Control
Works great. I used the water pan for years and usually struggled to keep the temp up to 250° . When I use the Baffle Plate I have to choke the lower vents to keep the temp at 275°. It's nice to be able to be able to adjust the temperature.

Great heat diffuser
After comparing the Hunsaker Vortex and this FireDial heat diffuser I ended up choosing the FireDial as it would arrive sooner. It fit perfectly on the bottom level of the WSM and essentially replaces the water bowl. Smoked a turkey and it helped maintain the temperature of the smoker. Well built and the stainless steel is easy to clean.

Initial thoughts are good.
Arrived a day early, so that's a plus. The price is good, especially if you compare to other heat deflectors / low and slow devices. I like the fact that it's metal too. There is much better heat transfer compared to a stone. There are several uses for this on my Master Touch. I have the Only Fire Multipurpose Rotisserie Ring with the pizza oven stuff. People have complained of uneven heating... No actual roof on the oven. Putting my extra 22 inch grate with some foil and the Fire Dial on the grate tabs of the ring will make a dandy roof for the pizza oven. Saw a guy do this with a cast iron skillet and aluminum foil.. The Fire Dial and aluminum foil will work better I think and probably cheaper. You can also put the firedial on a grate and cook directly on it. Looking forward to some smoke fried bacon. I think that unlike the Slow & Sear there are several uses on my kettle and it's cheaper to boot. I've not cooked with it yet, so I can only give it 4 stars at this point for the build quality, quick delivery, and the cool concept. There is one down side that I didn't like. This version of the Fire Dial for the Weber Kettle sits directly on the bowl if you don't have another way to use it. I worried about the porcelain coating damaged by the metal. Luckily I have a solution. I have a spare 22 inch cooking grate laying around, so I put it in upside down and laid the Fire Dial on it. The handles are in the way right side up. I'll update the review after a few cooks to give it a fair trial and post the results.

Works as a (better than) replacement for the water bowl
WSM 18.5 owner. Using this allows the removal of the water bowl. This is a big plus for several reasons. For one, cleaning up the water bowl is a PITA. To avoid I used to wrap it in foil, but still a very messy cleanup. If you clean the Firedial at all, it is easy with some Easy Off. Second, the water bowl is deep, so when you open the access door there is not a whole lot of visibility to the fire, let alone the ability to stir coals or add. The FireDial brings back some 4-6" (if you had the newer style bowl, less otherwise). Finally, heat seems to be very evenly distributed and it appears I have no hot spots around the outside of the cooking grate. The water bowl forced the hot air to the outside, but the FireDial lets it come up everywhere, making it more even.

FireDial is way better than the water pan
FireDial in my Weber Smokey Mountain is a game changer! I should have replaced the water pan years ago. With the FireDial, there’s no messing with a heavy water pan. The meat is not steamed. It’s smoked very well. I just finished two racks of baby back ribs, and they were the best that I’ve ever made! Temperature control was amazingly consistent. I was at 250° for the entire cook. The best part is that after my cook, I don’t have to clean a dirty and heavy water pan.

Used this to cook my pork shoulder on my 18” WSM. Did an amazing job. Much better and easier than Using the water pan and allows more room for charcoal below it

The water bowl hangs too low to add wood chunks or coals mid cook on the 18” WSM. This solves that problem. I’m able to control the temps just as well with this as a bowl full of water too.
