This is great if you’re out on the trail.
The taste is ok, but this is more like a chili gravy or a base. There’s hardly anything in it, only specks of ground beef but it is thick. For a quick meal at home, I add a few ingredients to it like ground beef and lentils (they’re a smaller bean) and some onions. They make it easy to see that they have 63% less sodium, which is great. Out on the trail, it could be a hearty meal with some saltines or what have you. For me, it’s like buying a frozen pizza- you need to doctor it up a bit. I learned from my mother when we ate government food in the 60’s and 70’s, that if you add a few ingredients, it tastes better and leaves you full.

Honest review
I eat LOTS of chili. I say this is pretty good stuff, but average ... like 92% of other chilis I consume. There is NOTHING wrong with this product (unless you are someone who enjoys finding fault)

So-so
The flavor isn't bad, but the meat is pureed like baby food and tastes very pasty and gross.

Vile. Disgusting. Texture and appearance worse than dogfood.
Most horrible thing ever to pass my lips. Worst chili ever tasted. before heating, it looks like pink dog food. After heating it's a red lumpy gravy that is the taste of pure chili powder. Imagine taking the bottle of chili powder from your spices and just dumping it directly into your open mouth. As you choke on that realize this is the flavor of this allegedly chili in a pouch. Supposedly there is tomato in this. I might believe there is plenty of red 40 in here along with that textured (wrongly) soy protein. The texture really is like gravy, as if this should be served over some mashed potatoes or something (don't do that unless for some strange reason you think the taste of chili powder goes well with mashed potatoes). This hit my gag reflex hard.

Disappointed. Can't Find it Locally
This chili is not like another popular brand that is too thick. It had plenty of beans in it.I could chew it, even with my lower denture which hardly has any chewing power.I added sour cream and cheese to it which gives it even better flavor. It's not spicy hot, which I like.I love the flavor; just the right amount of sweet.I like the fact it comes in a pouch, which I can put into a ziplock bag and refrigerate it. It lasts for 3 or 4 meals for me.My only complaint is, I can't find it locally so far.

in an emergancy but not to deppend on for good chili flavor at all....
Even warmed up it's a jiggly gob mass. Flavor is not near chili. Very little meat. Funky color and just not at all like chili.Good news is it lasts a long time due to the packaging vs a can. I wish it taste better. In a crisis, with some crackers you can feed the family.I would buy it again only to store. Goes well beyond the "best by" date :) and tastes the same.I have some dated "by 2022" and it tastes like it did new.

actually NO stars
Had I done a blind taste of this, I could not have identified it. It has less chili to it than the generic canned store brands. No tomato taste, no chili seasoning flavor. It's awful. The texture and mouth feel give no indication of chili-ness...canned or homemade. It's kind of like thick pudding. Yuck.
