The Knowing: Awake in the Dark

Two lives. Both crossing tragically. This is a story of a young man stripped of youthful innocence by a deranged father and selfish mother, and of his own slide into depravity. It is also the story of the young woman that shared some of that journey, first willfully entangling herself therein and later, desperately trying to find the door. Nita's portrayal of her life at this time and of her burgeoning abilities to portend is both compelling and, at times, horrifying.This was a non-stopper for me. When I did try to take breaks from the read, all I could think was, "Well, how did she get out of that..." or "I need to know more.., " whereupon I would pick up my reader and quietly excuse myself.

I really enjoyed reading this book, although for me it started off a little "hmm, this is just another tale like a million others" THEN, somehow, the story grabbed me and I just couldn't put it down! As a look into spirituality, psychology, courage through adversity, etc., "The Knowing" contains suspense and tragedy and very real human experience, "warts and all". I would even venture to say, for those who have experienced the more 'hard core' aspects life can deal out, healing and resolution can be found within the pages. The only reason I dropped one star was because as an editor, the punctuation was a little off and especially commas in wrong places, put off the flow of the words as I read. I'm OCD like that! Definitely a book worth reading and referring to others. Thank you Nita, your words truly have made an impact!

Nita is a true hero. This book is based on a true story about overcoming obstacles and perseverance. Nita was confronted with so many horrible experiences growing up and has come out of the darkness shining so bright and inspiring us all that we can do it to. She has been blessed with an amazing gift of being a clairvoyant where she is able to help so many people through her special gift. She has personally helped me, my family and my friends. She has helped friends decrease anxiety, reconnect with loved ones who have passed, and told me things about myself that has inspired me and guides me through life. I recommend this book to everyone, it teaches us to never give up on ourselves, and that someday we will find our true self no matter what life hands us.

This book is a true story of hope and inspiration that each and everyone of us have the ability and power to transform ourselves when becoming lost in a world of dysfunction and abuse. It was hard for me to imagine the layers and length of the on going abuse and dysfunction the Author endured during her childhood and teen years. At times it seemed unbelievable. I feel it is so important and brave to share these experiences to give others hope who are trapped in their own 'Sea of Confusion' and those who are having a hard time to change the influences we easily become products of in our environment that influence who we become or can become. It can be difficult to read at times but it is so important to finnish this story as it all comes together in the end. Additionally it reaches out to those who have intuitive abilities and may be afraid to accept, use and embrace them. Kudo's to the author for her ability to pull herself out of the tragedy she endured and totally transform herself and her life. A short read with an important message!! I especially recommend this to woman who are suffering or who have suffered from abuse in many forms or levels. It will inspire you and give you hope!

This is an autobiography of a clairvoyant. It details her life as a youngster through adulthood. She must face her demons and low self esteem until she finds her own way. Her story is interesting.

I just finished  The Knowing: Awake in the Dark , on a flight from Phoenix to Detroit, and I couldn't put it down. Nita's incredible story takes your breath away at times. Her narrative of pain, poor choices, the absence of any adult normalcy or role models, gradual self awareness of her many gifts, perseverance and ultimately of her strength to overcome is completely engaging. Her accounts of the visions and voices that accompany her life are spellbinding and her writing style is straightforward and smart. Just when you think "now what else could possibly happen to this woman", you turn the next page and take another ride. Her story is inspirational and compelling.My wife is reading it next, and then I'm going to have to re-read it again. Highly recommended!

What a great book! Very informative and the author writes so that you have a much better understanding of what she went through and finally became.

The story that Nita and her family has gone through was amazing. She was so very honest and forthcoming with her struggles and successes. I was hoping to read more about the story of the rapist she had married since I love true crime. This story was more about her clairvoyance and personal journey within her clairvoyance. It was VERY interesting and I enjoyed the story immensely...
