Ritchey, Quick Disconnect - Brake

Necessary if you disassemble your bike for air travel
We have cyclocross/adventure style bikes that we like to take with us when we travel. We have cases that allow us to transport the bikes without airline fees but it requires some disassembly of the bikes including the fork and handlebars. Our bikes have v-brakes on the front and there is no good way to disassemble the handlebars from the bike unless you undo the brake cable. After one or two trips, the brake cable gets munged up and has to be replaced. As well, v-brakes are finicky to adjust and get them right. With this, we put one of these between the arms of the v-brake and it allows us to quickly disassemble the handlebars from the bike and to quickly reassemble the whole thing without needing to re-adjust the brakes. Works great.Because they are used in a limited space for v-brakes, I would like to see an overall shorter length - hence 4 stars instead of 5.

great product for bikes with couplers
re-engineering of cable casing stops and casing brackets will be needed, as they need to stand-off from the frame. The Ritchey couplers hang up on the edge of S&S couplers. You will also need to re-space the distance between adjacent cables if close together, so the couplers do not hang up on eachother. In use, the couplers SPIN with the cable braid. So the tapered flat on the coupler is useless, ends can easily hang up on any frame edge.that said, the double set screw is a must, compared to the single set screw version.

Works, but be prepared to modify your brake cable heads to fit.
The housing isn't large enough to host a road-brake cable end without carefully filing down some of the cable head end. The design should have enough tolerance for this. Not the end of the world in your shop, but if you were on the road (as I hope you'd be on the travel bike scenario this is typically designed for) you'd better pack a pre-shaved/filed spare cable, or just know that if you need one out and about, you need to have the shop file it down for you to fit.Simple enough to do, but for almost $14, this small part should just work out of the box.

Excellet
It could be better since the break cable stopper has to be filed to fit in. What I did was to run a break cable from the levers to the Ritchey connector and from the connector to the break a gear cable, which fits perfectly the connector and is strong enough for any break.

Great for S&S coupled or "Breakaway" bikes
These are great, just make sure to keep the rubber o-ring on or you will be listening to it rattling on the tube. I have a slightly different wrench tightening style on my S&S coupled bike that split when tightening...my bad. Anyway, got this as a replacement. Finger tight and loosen is nice, works great.

Works perfect.
Needed a quick disconnect for my custom Bill Holland one of a kind tandem that uses the S&S couplers. This does the job perfectly.

unique and Inventive
A great special application part that does the job...similar to the Moulton disconnect...less than half the price however. I have been very satisfied with Ritchey products in the past, so it is perfect for my needs at this time.

Works well, may save you effort
This allows you to split the cable in two parts for collapsible bikes, like those with S&S couplers. You need two cables, one for the brake lever and another for the second half of this splitter as it uses the same cable end as a road lever. It is larger and beefier than the shifter version and the rubber o-ring keeps it from rattling on your frame. Two set screws keep it very secure. You likely need only one of these because the front brake stays in place when collapsing the bike. However, you might not need one at all if you have cantilever brakes. Can you separate the cable yoke from the straddle cable?
