ThinkPad Pro Dock Docking Station 40A10090US

I must admit, I just connected all my components last week, so hopefully my review isn't too premature, but so far I haven't seen anything not to love. I have a new Lenovo T450 laptop and it pops in and out easier than any other Lenovo dock I've used in the past. I have a home office, but do travel to corporate sites, so taking it on the run and redocking when I return it is easier than previous dock models. The laptop seats nicely when pushing it onto the dock. I attached a printer, router lan connection, external speakers, a camera and I have two monitors connected via an IOGear adapter cable (so only using the VGA port of the dock). I bought a wireless keyboard & mouse to keep some USB slots open and I have to say, everything is working like a charm. The buzzing previous reviewers had must've been corrected in subsequent batches, and I don't have any issue with video flickering (maybe b/c I'm only using the one port?) So far, very happy with this dock!

Love the extra usb slots. It is heavier than I expected. Ventilation seem to be a bit of an issue with the way it connects to the thinkpad but still acceptable ventilation available.

I felt wierd giving thickness five stars when the dock is pretty petite with my T560 perched on it. Works great and all that, and is definitely not too small. It's a great value by itself, and but the Pro dock comes with an OE Lenovo 90W PSU and IMO that's not reflected in the price. You can't buy an OE 65/90/130W PSU for this price so IMO very happy to say the least. There were some shipping issues and the seller REALLY came through to make sure I got the dock. I appreciate that a lot!

This is the second ThinkPad Pro Dock I've purchased for my 2015 T440s. During the pandemic I was hustling back and forth from a one-person studio to my home office, plugging in wires at home and dropping it into the dock at the studio. It finally dawned on me that having two docking stations would be a LOT easier! The price is right, the new unit is the same as the 5yr-old one, and just as rugged. Plenty of ports, and it's own power supply. It's an IBM design, built by Lenovo, and it's a quality product all around. The only thing I would wish for is an eSata port, which would turn my laptop into a full-scale desktop workstation. Still, 3 USB 3 ports is good enough. Top marks all around.

Docking station works great, exactly as described! Makes charging a breeze and I’m still able to use multiple screens at my home office. Love that I can pick up and go with my laptop pressing the quick release button on the docking station. Also, shipping was not prime delivery, but it still came within a few days. Super happy overall!

Works well, give you the option of many additional ports

So I'm not knocking the e-dealer I bought this from, but I do want them, and anyone considering buying a Lenovo docking station (either the Basic, Ultra or Pro docks) through Amazon to understand that it appears that Amazon and it's dealers have a bad, defective batch of Lenovo Basic/Pro/Ultra Dock docking stations. If you look at the reviews for the Lenovo Ultra Dock, you will see several complaints about a horribly loud buzzing noise coming through external speakers when they are plugged into these model docking stations. It's a defect that for whatever reason, Lenovo hasn't recalled, and instead waits for people to complain about it before replacing it. I bought an Ultra Dock first, had the horrible buzzing issue, returned it and purchased the Pro Dock here, and had the same loud, unacceptable buzzing issue with that. After several rounds of phone calls to Lenovo tech support (nobody there seems to know what the other hand is doing and claimed they'd never heard of any complaints like this despite there already being several here on Amazon at that point in time), they wanted me to ship my laptop to them because they felt it was a systems board issue, and if I wanted them to test the laptop with my Pro Dock I would have to ship that to them separately, which frankly makes no sense whatsoever. How will they know that the two separate items are from the same person to be tested together?! Anyway, I was fortunate that I had a local authorized Lenovo repair center nearby and I decided to use them in hopes that a fix would be faster turnaround time. After they had several rounds of calls with Lenovo, they finally found that the Docking stations of a certain run/generation are all defective and need to be replaced. So they overnighted a replacement and I'm back up and running now, so far without the awful buzzing noise. That said, since this is a public forum, SHAME ON LENOVO for not issuing a total recall of all these defective models. It makes me think a lot less of the company since they are putting the onus on consumers to figure out that this is a manufactures defect, and apparently without issuing a company wide notice about this defect to all tech and customer support. Customers should not have to suffer thrugh endless rounds of telephone calls to hope they can connect with the few people at Lenovo who know this problem exists. Amazon should pull all these defective docking station models from their stock - and their e-dealers stock - so that customers are not as inconvenienced as I and others were.
